Quick Facts About The Chestnut Horse

The Chestnut Horse place has received a mix of positive and negative reviews, indicating both strengths and weaknesses in various aspects. In order to provide a comprehensive analysis, the strengths and weaknesses will be discussed in terms of food, service, atmosphere, and overall experience.
Starting with the strengths, many customers commented positively on the food. The phrase "leckeres Essen" (delicious food) was mentioned in one of the comments, indicating that the taste of the dishes was enjoyable. Another comment praised their lamb roast dinner for being reasonably priced and having large portions. The variety of fresh vegetables served with the roast dinner was also appreciated. Additionally, the staff's knowledge of the food and ingredients and their ability to provide recommendations was seen as a positive aspect, distinguishing the pub from tiresome chain restaurants.
In terms of service, the barmaid was commended for being lovely and helpful. Customers appreciated her friendliness and willingness to assist. Another comment mentioned the staff's attentiveness and friendliness during the visit, with the service being described as "spot on." These positive experiences with the staff contributed to the overall enjoyment of the visit.
The atmosphere of The Chestnut Horse place was also mentioned positively by customers. The presence of a fireplace was highlighted as a pleasant feature, creating a cozy environment. The location of the pub in the beautiful village of Easton, Hampshire, was also appreciated. Ample parking availability and access to countryside walks added to the appeal of the location.
Moving on to the weaknesses, some comments criticized the quality of the food. One customer stated that the food was disappointing, with starters being served cold and undercooked, and the sausage and mash main dish being of poor quality. The potatoes in the dish were not cooked properly, making them yellow and hard. Another comment mentioned that the vegetables served with the beef were overcooked and the gravy was watery. These criticisms indicate a lack of consistency in the food preparation and quality.
Another weakness that was highlighted in one comment was the limited menu and lack of welcoming atmosphere. The pub was described as empty, cold, and waiting for a new landlord to start. This gave the impression that the pub was not well-maintained and lacked a welcoming ambiance. The limited menu was also seen as a drawback, and the comment expressed concern about the freshness of the food, as it seemed that they were using up leftover ingredients.
Furthermore, one customer mentioned that their burger was forgotten and when it eventually arrived, it was overcooked. The room temperature was also described as chilly, potentially affecting the overall dining experience.
In conclusion, The Chestnut Horse place has several strengths and weaknesses. The positive aspects include delicious food, friendly and helpful staff, a cozy atmosphere, and a good location. On the other hand, weaknesses include inconsistency in the quality of the food, limited menu options, and a lack of welcoming atmosphere in some cases. While the strengths contribute to positive experiences, the weaknesses highlight areas that could be improved upon to enhance the overall customer satisfaction.

Leckeres Essen, freundliches Personal. Wir kommen gerne wieder!
Service was good. Refurb looks great lovely modern twist but food was disappointing. No starter were warm and one undercooked . The sausage and mash main was very dire. Taste and presentation okay but the potatoes hadn't been cooked properly before mashing so were yellow and hard. Again this dish wasnt hot.
The barmaid was lovely and very helpful which is the only thing that saved this visit. Beware if you sit outside to eat you have to endure the smell of weed coming from the chefs ect outside the kitchen
Good hospitality. Enjoyed the fire place however vegetables served with beef were overcooked , grawy watery
Lovely lamb roast dinner for a very reasonable price. Large portions and a good variety of fresh veg. Good atmosphere and you can tell the staff are working really hard to make it work. Would definitely recommend a visit!
Disappointed with our visit to what used to be a lovely welcoming pub. The pub is waiting for the new landlord to start, so hopefully things improve soon.
The pub was empty and cold, with a very limited menu. The staff advised that they were using food up, which made me wander how fresh it would be, so we decided to take our custom elsewhere. Sorry for not supporting you but it just didn't feel very welcoming.
Booked in advance and visited for Sunday lunch with my wife and son and what a brilliant little find this was for us.
Staff were very attentive and friendly whilst we visited, service was spot on compared to many pubs we have visited for Sunday lunch. Chicken roast and Lamb roast was great and came out very quickly our sons fish and chips were delicious and the portion size for a child is huge for the price that you pay.
Easton mess was delicious and presented beautifully and a great play on the name for a classic dish. Big thank you to Alex for being very accommodating and giving us one of the best family Sunday lunches we’ve had in a long time.
Will book again in the future once we are back in Winchester.
What a superb little pub, this is a really cosy pub / restaurant in an idyllic location. The staff were really friendly and the food freshly cooked and very tasty.
A good selection on the menu and staff knowledgeable about the food and ingredients. A very welcome relief from the tiresome chain restaurants.
Ample parking available on site and access to some lovely countryside walks
Thanks for a great visit!
Lovely pub in the beautiful village of Easton, Hampshire. I guess on a Sunday you should probably go for a roast, however I decided on a burger which ended up being forgotten. When it eventually turned up, to be fair, a good vet would have had it up and running around in no time! The room temperature was pretty chilly as well. Not putting a downer on it though, I reckon this place could be a cracker in the summer. I'll go back and give it another go sometime.
