Quick Facts About The Duke Of Wellington
The Duke of Wellington has a number of strengths that make it a popular venue for live music. One of the most prominent strengths is the vibrant atmosphere that permeates the space. The comment describing music running through the "very fibre" of the place indicates that it has a unique and captivating ambiance. This atmosphere is further enhanced by the live bands that perform at the venue. The comment praising the "fantastic live bands" suggests that the quality of the music is exceptional and adds to the overall appeal of the Duke of Wellington.
Another strength of the venue is its size and the sense of life being lived to the extreme. The comment mentioning that it is "big in here" implies that there is plenty of space for people to move around and enjoy themselves. This is important for a live music venue, as it allows attendees to fully immerse themselves in the experience without feeling crowded or uncomfortable. Additionally, the sense of life being lived to the extreme creates an energetic and lively environment that is likely to attract a diverse range of customers.
The Duke of Wellington is also praised for its authenticity and disregard for traditional norms. The comment stating that it is a "jewel that acts like it just don't care" suggests that the venue has a rebellious and non-conformist attitude. This can be appealing to individuals who are seeking a unique and unconventional experience. The fact that the Duke of Wellington "takes no prisoners" implies that it is bold and unapologetic in its approach, which may attract those who appreciate venues that are not afraid to push boundaries.
Furthermore, the Duke of Wellington is commended for its inclusivity. The comment mentioning that even those who are "erring on faintheartedness" will be welcomed and given the "kiss of life" indicates that the venue is welcoming to all types of people. This inclusivity can help create a sense of community and belonging among customers, making them more likely to return in the future.
Despite these strengths, there are also a number of weaknesses associated with the Duke of Wellington. One of the most prominent weaknesses is the excessive volume of the music. The comment expressing that "it's loud in here, very loud" suggests that the noise level may be too high for some people, potentially leading to discomfort or hearing damage. While the loud music may be a defining feature of the venue, it may also deter those who prefer a more subdued and relaxed atmosphere.
Another weakness is the lack of attention to maintenance and cleanliness. Several comments mention peeling wallpaper, broken furniture, and dirty glasses. These issues can create an uninviting and unclean environment that may discourage potential customers. Additionally, the absence of toilet seats and the limited selection of drinks, particularly the lack of beer on hand-pump, may further contribute to a negative impression of the venue.
In conclusion, the Duke of Wellington has a number of strengths that contribute to its appeal as a live music venue. These strengths include its vibrant atmosphere, excellent live bands, and inclusive nature. However, the venue also has weaknesses such as excessive volume, lack of maintenance, and limited drink options. Despite these weaknesses, it is clear that the Duke of Wellington has a dedicated fan base that appreciates its unique and unconventional approach to live music.

This place has music running through its very fibre you almost hear it whispering to you when you walk in, it's the kind that grabs your soul and gives it a wobble, it's definitely not the whisper you'd expect, be prepared to have your ear drums perforated at no extra cost, it's loud in here, very loud, it's big in here, there is life being lived to the extreme here, it is a jewel that acts like it just don't care, cos it doesn't care, you know it doesn't care, it takes no prisoners. The fascination about The Duke is that you WILL get all of your Wellington even if you don't know what all of your Wellington is. If you are by chance erring on faintheartedness 'sall okay, Duke will give you the kiss of life ...
What a place, hasn't changed in all the years. Fantastic live bands, amazing people there.
Atmosphere the very antithesis of "hell with fluorescent lighting". Interior decor is by Benson & Hedges and it was so dark, I was expecting the support act to be "The Lady In The Radiator". The sound was not bad considering that you're always fighting the drums in a place that size. Was disappointed that there was no beer on hand-pump and that bottles were pricey but considering there was no door money to see three acts, we were well happy.
Went once and omg it's a dive ... Too small for what's they use to for .. the crown the ferry is no bigger that's how teeny tiny it is ... It's dark depression décor is absolutely rubbish and place just absolutelty shocking . Not my thing one bit if others like it fill your boots bit seriously my views it's a dive not worth half any stars
The place is an absolute dive, with patched and broken furniture, no toilet seats, dirty plastic glasses and nothing on draught. Peeling wallpaper, graffiti, and an overgrown yard with more broken furniture.
Yet I had a great night as part.of the comedy festival. It had a great atmosphere, and staff and locals were fun and friendly.
Nice little pub. Very rock/metal feel. Everyone was friendly and a nice all round atmosphere. Went for the Neath Comedy Festival to see Wes Packer, great gig and people!
This grungy, semi derelict, black hole of a pub is one of the best music venues is South Wales. I love it
