Quick Facts About The Rutland Arms

The Rutland Arms receives a mix of positive and negative comments, highlighting both its strengths and weaknesses. Let's analyze these comments in more detail to understand the overall strengths and weaknesses of the place.
Starting with the strengths, one common theme is the friendly and attentive staff. The comments mention a lovely and friendly landlady, and several customers commend the staff for their friendly service. This is a valuable asset for any establishment, as it helps create a welcoming atmosphere and makes customers feel valued.
The recent refurbishment is another strength mentioned in the comments. While the interior is still described as dated, the refurbishment has made the place look much more appealing. This indicates that the management is proactive in improving the pub's appearance, which can attract new customers and enhance the overall customer experience.
The pub is also praised for its atmosphere. Customers describe it as a nice chilled atmosphere and a great old-school pub. This creates a relaxed and enjoyable environment for patrons, encouraging them to spend more time at the pub and potentially become regular customers.
Additionally, the Rutland Arms is positively associated with well-kept real ales and a nice selection of drinks. This suggests that the pub caters to the preferences of beer enthusiasts and offers a range of options for customers to choose from.
Now, let's delve into the weaknesses mentioned in the comments. One significant issue is the recent change in management, which does not seem to have had a positive effect on the pub. An example of this negative impact is the lack of real ales available at a recent home match due to a gas problem. This suggests that the quality of housekeeping may have declined under the new management, leaving customers disappointed.
Moreover, the comments indicate that the staffing level has also suffered. In contrast to the previous 5 or 6 bar staff, customers mention that there were only 2 staff members serving, resulting in long wait times to be served. This reduction in staff may have affected the efficiency and quality of service, as the pub seems to struggle to accommodate peak demand, especially during match days.
Another weakness voiced by a customer is the pub running out of beer on match days. This suggests a lack of effective inventory management, which can lead to customer dissatisfaction and potentially lost sales.
Although not explicitly mentioned as a weakness, the comments highlight that the interior of the pub is still dated. While the recent refurbishment has improved its appearance, the fact that it remains outdated may detract from the overall experience for some customers.
Despite these weaknesses, it's worth noting that some customers still consider the pub to be good, clean, and reasonably priced. These positive aspects mentioned alongside the negative comments suggest that the pub may still have redeeming qualities that attract and retain customers.
In conclusion, The Rutland Arms has several strengths, including a friendly and attentive staff, recent refurbishment, an enjoyable atmosphere, and a nice selection of drinks. However, the recent change in management has led to weaknesses such as a decline in real ales and staffing issues. The pub's inventory management and dated interior are also potential areas for improvement. Overall, while the pub may still have positive aspects, addressing the weaknesses identified could further enhance the customer experience and reputation of The Rutland Arms.

Lovely, friendly landlady. Hoping the food licence comes through soon as this will be great, especially on Match Days.
It has had a recent refurbishment which makes it look much more appealing. The inside is still dated but it's a nice chilled atmosphere and the service is really friendly.
This used to be the go to pub after football. Great atmosphere and well kept real ales. However, the recent change in management has not had a positive effect. There were no real ales available at all last home match, apparently a problem with the gas. That sounds like shorthand for poor housekeeping. Instead of 5 or 6 bar staff there were only 2, so a long wait to be served. It's certainly not the pub it was.
Another great old school pub with friendly staff and nice selection of drink to choose from.
Omg what away to end the day of remembrance. At the Rutland arms the staff are amazing and the sunshine sisters rounding of the evening until 1915 so come down and join in the fun.
Was a good pub but lately has run out bear on match day only 3 staff serving
Nice friendy pub, clean, OK prices
Came down to Portsmouth for the England vs Germany game and found this little place! What a great pub it is, great atmosphere and service, the bargirl was really attentive and never let out glasses run dry. They even gave everyone complimentary pizza which was a great touch! Lovely pub and best of all great beer!
