Quick Facts About The Unicorn Inn

The Unicorn Inn has received a mix of positive and negative comments, providing insight into the strengths and weaknesses of the establishment.
Starting with the weaknesses, several comments highlight issues with the atmosphere and cleanliness of the place. One commenter describes the atmosphere as weak, nippy, and not feeling right, suggesting a lack of warmth and comfort. Additionally, the pub is described as not being homely, dusty, and not very clean. These comments suggest that the ambiance and overall cleanliness of the establishment may leave something to be desired.
Another weakness mentioned by multiple commenters is the service. While it is acknowledged that the service was not bad, it is also mentioned that it didn't feel welcoming and some staff members were described as unfriendly and rude. This indicates a lack of customer service skills and hospitality, which can negatively impact the overall experience for patrons.
Moving on to the strengths, one commenter praises the lunch menu, describing it as terrific and tasty. They also mention that the staff is great and the prices are reasonable, indicating a positive dining experience in terms of food quality, service, and value for money. This suggests that the establishment has the potential to deliver enjoyable meals at affordable prices.
Another positive comment highlights the dog-friendliness of the pub, mentioning that it has a beer garden and is a pleasant place to visit with a dog. This indicates that the Unicorn Inn caters to a specific niche audience of dog owners, providing them with a welcoming and comfortable environment to enjoy a drink or a meal.
However, it is important to note that the negative comments outnumber the positive ones. Several commenters express their disappointment with the overall experience, citing issues such as cold temperatures, wrong drinks orders, long waiting times, and poor food quality. These negative experiences, coupled with the lack of positive comments about the food and service, suggest that the strengths of the establishment may not be consistently delivered.
Overall, the strengths of The Unicorn Inn seem to lie in its lunch menu, affordability, and dog-friendly environment. However, weaknesses in terms of atmosphere, cleanliness, and service are evident, which may contribute to negative experiences reported by patrons. The establishment should focus on improving these areas to ensure a more positive and consistent customer experience in the future.

Atmosphere was weak, nippy and just didn't feel right to me. It wasn't homly, the place was dusty and not very clean.
It just had an odd vibe to it. Service wasn't bad but didn't feel welcoming.
Terrific , tasty lunch menu. We took the family when they drove over from Leeds. Great staff and well priced. Enjoyable.
Absolutely disgusted with this place. We took my mum for her 91st Birthday it was virtually as cold in the pub as outside we had to sit with our coats on. Told by the unfriendly staff the heating was broken should they be open? Lipstick on glasses and cold food didnt even take my mums cake inside she had had enough and just wanted a cup of tea at home. Never again i have emailed no response and when i rang i got another rude member of staff saying he wasnt there very unfriendly on the phone
0 Stars really!
Date Of Visit - 30/10/22.
Impromptu visit after calling earlier to reserve to which we received no answer. Seemed like a massive inconvenience when we turned up, even tho the pub was empty. Couldn't believe it to be honest. Pub was freezing cold and half of it in darkness (maybe a sign of things to come), no heating or fires lit, we were seated and told approx 15 mins, (no issue but couldn't see why really) Drinks order was wrong and no attempt to rectify. Approx 30 mins later other tables seated around us and food orders started to be taken. I took my family and left the pub without paying for my erroneous drinks. This is what happens when you let kids on minimum wage run front of house. Absolutely disgusted after frequenting the establishment on and off for the last 20 years. Treat customers like this at your peril. The Unicorn was the place to eat locally years ago. How they have slipped so bad is beyond me.
Really annoyed tbh. Please see my reviews. I always give honest and open feedback.
We probably won't return now as this is not the first occasion of either poor service or food quality etc. Plenty of other reviews seem to say the same.
Good luck with the financial downturn ahead.
The management can feel free to contact me regarding this review if u need too. Such a shame and a loss to the village.
Gave 1 star because I couldn't leave 0 stars, I remember the days when the Unicorn Inn was a fantastic place to go for a Sunday Roast, my wife and I went last Sunday and oh my lord it was abysmal, The pub was empty and extremely cold, there were two staff on duty, the food tasted like it was left over from the week before, it's sad really what the current owners have done to our local pub, we won't be going back, Ever..........
There was a group of us for fathers day n I found this place to be terrible, I'm only giving one star for Dan n the girls who served us, we all had different meals off the menu chicken curry was out of a jar or a tin, roast potatoes have been precooked then put through deep fryer so disgusting n tasted like yesterday's left overs, Yorkshire puddings were tough burnt n had a faint taste of fish to them, my mother in law had a steak for nearly £20 n then told she had to pay extra for sauce, on top of all this I find myself sick this morning n unable to go to work, this was the last thing I had eaten so no guessing why.
I find it very hard to think of a good thing about the food seeing as we was a large group n all had to order in advance so the veg at least should be fresh n not recooked.
If you decide to eat here, then good luck n I hope you have a strong stomach.
Took family for food between xmas and new year, most of.the menu was unavailable, food was dry . Used to be a top place wont be going back again
We are looking after the dog for the family at the moment so we decided after a long walk we would seek out a dog friendly pub with a beer garden as it was a nice warm day. The unicorn was on our trajectory so we dropped in there. I have to say it was a very old fashioned place that apparently hasn't changed much in years as the girlfriend used to frequently frequent it. Pleasant for a quick drink and a place to take the dog.
