Quick Facts About The White Hart
The White Hart Place is described as a pub with two personalities - a quiet local boozer most of the time, but karaoke madness when the mood takes. This suggests that the pub offers a diverse experience depending on the time and day, which can be seen as a strength for those seeking variety in their pub visits.
One of the strengths mentioned by a visitor is that the pub has a lovely traditional atmosphere and lots of character. It is described as a quaint old pub with a warm welcome. This suggests that the pub has a unique and authentic ambiance, which can be appealing to those looking for an authentic pub experience.
Another positive aspect highlighted is that the pub plays brilliant tunes, which adds to the overall atmosphere and entertainment value. This can attract music lovers and those who enjoy a lively and fun atmosphere.
The fact that the pub is always visited when in the area and receives a warm welcome suggests that the staff and locals are friendly and hospitable. This is a significant strength, as good customer service and a welcoming atmosphere can greatly enhance the overall experience for customers.
The pub is also described as dog-friendly, which can be seen as a strength for dog owners who want to enjoy a drink with their furry friends. It creates an inclusive and welcoming environment for a wider range of customers.
Additionally, the presence of a nice outdoor area is mentioned as a positive aspect of The White Hart Place. A beer garden can be appealing on sunny days and offers customers the opportunity to enjoy their drinks in an outdoor setting. This can enhance the overall experience and attract customers who enjoy outdoor spaces.
However, some weaknesses are also mentioned in the comments. One reviewer complains about locals being aggressive and using unacceptable language in the pub, expressing a desire for a nicer environment. This suggests that the pub may have issues with maintaining a peaceful and respectful atmosphere at times, which can be off-putting for some customers.
The fact that the pub does not accept cards is mentioned as another weakness. In a world where card payments are increasingly common and convenient, not accepting cards may inconvenience customers and potentially lead to lost sales. This can be seen as a drawback, particularly in a tourist-heavy area like Bideford where customers may not always carry cash.
Another comment raises concerns about the overall state of the pubs in Bideford, suggesting that this pub is not unique in terms of possibly lacking in desirable qualities. This raises questions about the quality and reputation of the pub scene in the area and whether there are underlying issues that need to be addressed.
A negative experience is described by a group of rugby players who were reportedly treated poorly by the landlady. They claim that the pub closed early despite having sufficient staff, and they felt unwelcome and were asked to leave. This highlights a potential weakness in the pub's management and customer service, as well as the potential for inconsistency in accommodating larger groups.
In conclusion, The White Hart Place has several strengths such as its lovely traditional atmosphere, character, and the ability to provide a diverse experience depending on the time and day. The pub's friendly service, dog-friendliness, and nice outdoor area are also positive aspects. However, weaknesses include occasional issues with aggressive behavior and unacceptable language, not accepting card payments, concerns about the pub scene in Bideford in general, and negative experiences with the landlady's attitude towards customers.

The pubs in Bideford need to be aware that tourists come to spend money and expect nice environment not locals being aggressive and using unacceptable language. This pub is no different from the others in addition that they do not accept cards! Does Bideford have a problem with their pubs?
Quaint old pub. Very welcoming. Dog friendly. Nice outdoor area.
Small friendly local pub. Half pint of Atlantic IPA for me, coffee for companion, friendly service. All OK.
A warm welcome from a very much "locals" pub. We missed the Sunday afternoon meat raffle but caught the cheer of the late afternoon revellers. Situated just off the quay in a small side street with an enclosed beer garden. The beer was good and reasonably priced.
Very poor attitude towards customers 20 rugby players walked into the bar on the night of 19th and where told at 10.15 the bar will be closed even though they had 3 bar staff behind the bar the landady was rude and at 9.50pm she closed the hole bar and and asked to leave very poor attitude and very rude landlady
