Quick Facts About Ann & Nell's African Hair
Ann & Nell's African Hair place has a number of strengths as well as weaknesses based on the comments provided. Let's analyze them in detail.
Strengths:
1. Positive Experience: One customer mentioned having a positive experience at Ann & Nell's African Hair place on two separate occasions. They enjoyed their styles for months, suggesting that the quality of braiding at this salon is generally good.
2. Ability to Accommodate Style Preferences: Customers mentioned that they were able to select their desired style by showing pictures, and the stylists were able to replicate them accurately. This suggests that the salon has skilled braiders who can meet diverse style preferences.
3. Outstanding Customer Service: Another positive comment highlighted the outstanding customer service at Ann & Nell's African Hair place. This indicates that the staff is attentive, friendly, and willing to cater to customers' needs.
4. Reasonable Pricing: A customer noted that the salon's prices were reasonable for the service provided, suggesting that Ann & Nell's African Hair place offers good value for money.
5. Neat and Long-Lasting Braids: One customer praised the salon for providing neat braids that lasted for three weeks without unraveling or falling out. This indicates that the salon pays attention to the quality of the braiding and takes care to ensure long-lasting results.
Weaknesses:
1. Poor Time Management: One negative comment pointed out that the salon had issues with time management. The customer had to wait longer than expected, and their daughter's appointment started late. This suggests that Ann & Nell's African Hair place may have difficulty adhering to appointment schedules.
2. Rushed Service: Another customer mentioned that the quality of service had declined since the pandemic. They experienced braids coming out just a few days after getting them done, indicating that the stylists may rush through the braiding process, resulting in poor-quality work.
3. Lack of Attention to Detail: A customer mentioned that the salon did not pay attention to the details of the style they requested. Instead, the stylist did the hair according to their own convenience. This suggests that Ann & Nell's African Hair place may not prioritize customer preferences or may not have effective communication between customers and stylists.
4. Inconsistency in Technique: One customer mentioned that while the braids were not too tight, the salon lacked finesse in creating the appearance of fullness. This indicates that the stylists may have inconsistencies in their technique, resulting in uneven outcomes.
5. Unprofessional Behavior: A customer shared a particularly negative experience where the stylist did not fulfill their initial request and then asked for more money to make the desired changes. Furthermore, they were kicked out of the salon without proper accommodation when their Uber arrived. This highlights unprofessional behavior and lack of customer care.
In conclusion, Ann & Nell's African Hair place has several strengths, such as positive customer experiences, ability to accommodate style preferences, outstanding customer service, reasonable pricing, and neat and long-lasting braids. However, it also has weaknesses, including poor time management, rushed service, lack of attention to detail, inconsistency in technique, and instances of unprofessional behavior.

I have been to this braiding place twice before and generally have a very positive experience there and have been able to enjoy my styles for months. I made an appointment ahead of time but did have to wait a bit for another stylist to arrive to start my hair. A couple of suggestions I have: if you are leery of having heat on your hair and you're an air dry girl, wash your hair a couple of nights before so it has enough time to air dry. They ended up having to blow dry my hair which I didn't really like so much because it was not a gentle process. Be sure you know ahead of time style, size of braids, length and color so you can have a good idea of the price. I've attached photos of the three styles I've had done with the long box braids being the latest. I'll return here next time I'm in Philly for another style. Thanks Anne & Nell's!
DO NOT GO TO THEM THEY WILL LIE TO YOU. ABOUT WHEN TO COME IN. I TOOK MY DAUGHTER FOR A 5PM APPOINTMENT. TELL ME WHY SHE DIDNT GET HER HAIR DONT TO CLOSE TO 7. MIND YOU WE WERE THERE B4 5 AND HAD TO BLOW DRY HER HAIR. ALL OF THIS WAS DONE B4 5. YOU GUYS REALLY NEED TO LEARN TIME MANAGEMENT. DO NO GO HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO WAIT HOURS TO GET YOUR HAIR DONE.
I have been coming here for over 10 years. Since the pandemic they have fell off badly. I got crochet braids 2 weeks ago and took them out yesterday because by day 3 my braids were coming out 4 to 5 braids at a time. And all I would do is run my fingers through my hair and braids were just coming out. They were not looped tight enough it seemed like a rush job $100 wasted. Not to mention even if you make an appointment be prepared to wait 30 minutes to even get seated and they will call u and tell u you come in before your appointment time having you thinking you'll be seated right away nope. And don't waste your time sending picture of the style you want because they never pay attention to detail they do your hair the way they want that's convenient for them. I found a more professional salon to go toThey have lost a loyal customer
Outstanding customer service and the best for all your braiding needs. They can braid whatever style you have by the picture you select. They are the best around. If I could I would give them more than 5 stars.
One star bc technique and it’s not too tight, but they have zero finesse when it comes to creating the appearance of fullness and my technician wasn’t so gentle when separating my natural roots.
So, initially I wasn’t going to write review, however I’m thinking about the sisters who are searching for a quality, professional place to have hair extension services performed.
This ain’t it!
I came in for my 4pm appt. (which was originally 3pm, but was told to come in at 4. She didn’t start me until 4:30ish). I requested Senegalese Twists, shoulder length with a full crown. My technician stated that it will cost $160.
I’m like, that’s it?? Ok! I thought she understood the assignment when I snapped some pics of the front as it was full in the front of the crown.
When my hair was finished, I paid the $160 + $20 tip before I looked in the mirror at the finish bc again, it appeared as if she understood my request, but......That was a Big mistake! Bc as I began to shift my hair around in the mirror, I noticed the disproportionately parted hair to the small twists at the very top and back of the crown.
I reminded the technician of my initial request and she said “You’ll have to pay more for that.” I said, “...but you quoted me $160!!!” She responds, “I know, but you have to make an appointment for earlier in the day.”
I’m like WOW! Really?? Ok! Unreal!
In other words what she was telling me is, she reneged on the service bc she realized it was a mistake to take me so late in day, when she could have just agreed to take me the following day (thanks Nell)
And to think I was going to tip $40 for her time and service. (I love expressing my appreciation in the form of cash.)
“Just brush it off your shoulder April and never come back to this establishment again.” I said to myself. However it wasn’t quite so simple bc this next part I’m about to tell you just literally blew my mind into tears...
It’s midnight and my Uber was 15 minutes away. She turned the lights to the salon off, essentially kicking me out to the curb to wait 15 mins for my Uber in an area that was practically dark and deserted.
Shameful! Never Again!
My Philly Sisters, you are being charged exponentially more for hair extensions for half the job. How did the these salons convince us to accept the oversized part to braid/twist ratio standard of style? It is shameful what we so willingly accept as a norm. Tell these technicians to make your crown (top of head) full and stop with the cheap, overpriced shortcuts. It’s disgraceful.
And I want to say, my sisters, it’s time to raise our standard as it relates to the service demonstrated in our local beauty/ hair salons. We talk about the micro-aggressions experienced in white America, but ain’t nothing worse than having to endure the indignity experienced in our own home.
Let’s raise our emotional standards and refrain from frequenting establishments who fail to commit to the overall well being of their Clients.
The staff was pleasant. They did exactly what I wanted. Braids are tight but no pulling of the scalp. I will definitely go back
They did my daughter's lemonade braids nice and were reasonable. The staff is nice, quiet but nice. They are following the social distancing guidelines. You will not be disappointed with this place they can do it all i seen multiple styles being done while I was there and all nice. Pop smoke braids, knotless, feeding braids they all looked good
I went to Ann & Nell's African Hair three weeks ago to get medium mid-back individuals. This was the best service I ever had when it comes to getting my hair braided. Ms. Nell was extremely nice and made me feel comfortable. Everyone had good vibes never felt uncomfortable. My hair was done in 5 hours! (I’m used to being in braiding salons all day) My hair was beautiful! Neat and all the braids are the same size (including the middle). It’s been three weeks and I still love my braids. No braids had unraveled or fell out. I highly recommend Ann & Nell's braiding salon.
