Quick Facts About Astou African Braiding & Beauty Supply

Astou African Braiding & Beauty Supply has both strengths and weaknesses based on the comments provided. The strengths include a wide selection of beauty products, affordable prices, and friendly customer service. However, the weaknesses include poor hair braiding services, unprofessionalism, and questionable business practices.
One of the strengths mentioned by a customer is the wide selection of beauty products available at Astou African Braiding & Beauty Supply. The customer states that they were able to find everything they needed for braiding supplies and accessories at affordable prices. This suggests that the store offers a variety of products, making it a convenient one-stop shop for customers.
Affordable prices are another strength mentioned by a customer. They state that they spent less than $70 on braiding supplies and accessories, which they found to be a good deal. This indicates that customers can find affordable products at Astou African Braiding & Beauty Supply, making it an attractive option for those on a budget.
Friendly customer service is also mentioned as a strength. A customer notes that they were greeted with a hello and a nice smile and described one of the staff members as a sweet and knowledgeable young girl. This positive experience suggests that the staff at Astou African Braiding & Beauty Supply are friendly and helpful, creating a welcoming atmosphere for customers.
Despite these strengths, there are several weaknesses highlighted by customers. One of the most significant weaknesses is the poor hair braiding services provided by Astou African Braiding. Multiple customers complained about their hair braids falling out, looking messy, or not being done as requested. These negative experiences indicate a lack of skill and attention to detail in the hair braiding services offered at the salon.
Unprofessionalism is another weakness mentioned. One customer complained about the lack of professionalism and customer service displayed by the staff. They described a situation where their natural hair was cut without their permission and the business refused to refund their money or accommodate their needs. This unprofessional behavior can leave customers feeling dissatisfied and lead to a loss of trust in the business.
Questionable business practices are also mentioned as a weakness. One customer discussed how the business charged more than the listed price for products and argued with customers when they pointed out the discrepancy. This type of behavior can be seen as dishonest and may discourage customers from returning.
In conclusion, Astou African Braiding & Beauty Supply has strengths in terms of a wide selection of beauty products, affordable prices, and friendly customer service. However, there are significant weaknesses related to poor hair braiding services, unprofessionalism, and questionable business practices. These weaknesses highlight areas that the business needs to improve upon in order to provide a satisfactory experience for customers.

DO NOT GET YOUR BRAIDS DONE AT ASTOU AFRICAN BRAIDING....
I went to Astou on December 1, 2017 for her to see my hair and select the Remi (natural) hair for my micro braids. As a first time weave, breading hair, breads wearer, I brought and showed Astou the picture of the micro braids style (micro all of my hair w/wavy hair at the ends) I desired. Since some of my hair is bleached blonde, I wanted the Remi hair to continue washing and conditioning every 2-3 weeks to protect my hair. I stressed to her that I was going in braids due to continuous workouts and needed to put my hair up in a ponytail.
I went on Saturday, December 02, 2017 to get the micro braids. She had me to look at pictures on her wall. I told her I wanted the micro braids I saw in one picture and the type of wavy hair I saw in another picture. Her sister or family member did micro braids in a small portion at the top right area of my head. She did a sew in. I was at the shop for 7 hours (to include wash and blow dry). When I looked at the hair once done I didn’t see the ends of my hair sticking out from the braids before I left because Astou sprayed something on the braided area and rubbed her hand over the braided area. When I got home that night, I looked in the mirror (better lighting and a clean mirror) and saw my natural hair sticking through the braids. Please see the attached pictures of my hair; done by Astou’s African Braiding.... Horrible work. Judge for yourself.
I called Astou and paid for the conversion on my phone for her to get the message. I tied my hair down as she directed since I’ve never worn a weave or braids hoping that would help. Less than 12 hours after my service at this place, I took the braids out. The girl had cut my natural hair (I heard her using scissors but didn’t know she was cutting my hair.
I asked Astou to refund half of my money for the service, not the hair cost. She refused citing her sister had to be paid. She offered to micro braid my hair Tuesday afternoon despite me telling her I’m only available on the weekends. Her business didn’t perform the requested service, cut my hair, and wouldn’t accommodate the customer for their screw up. UNPROFESSIONALISM AT ITS BEST.
I am really heartbroken to write this because I truly believe in helping local businesses thrive but here we are.
Unfortunately, I have to sever my business relationship with this store because of a misunderstanding. Other than hair, she also sells traditional Senegalese clothing. I explained to Astou that my spouse is quite tall (6'7) and I was adamant in purchasing a tunic set because the pants will be quite short. She managed to convince me to buy two. I kept asserting that it would be ok to bring it back if they were too short and she kept saying it's ok.
Today, I called to let her know I will be bringing back the set as they were too short on my husband, it came only below his knee. And she out right told me she doesn't do returns. Now... the set was 60 dols and 90 dols respectively. Any legitimate clothing store would allow you to return clothes esp when they don't fit. But alas, she must not realize the amount of business she just lost by insisting that she told me she doesn't do returns contrary to what she said as she was trying to convince me to purchase and returning it would be ok. Then she proceeds to put me on hold. All the while carrying on in the background. At one point answering another ringing phone. As if to say " you might as well hang up lady- you're wasting time" so I did. I
The moral of the story is .....Buyer beware!!!!
These women did my weave, and 1 week later the tracks were falling out, hanging all over, looking crazy. I came back for them to fix it, and they expected me to pay agaaaaain, even though I paid the first time AND tipped graciously. I’ve been getting weaves for 10 years and never had this happen anywhere else before. Don’t go here!!
Really nice to FINALLY find a BLACK OWNED BEAUTY SUPPLY IN OCEANSIDE! prices are really good! Spent less than $70 on braiding supplies and accessories. But they have EVERYTHING! I'm from Oakland so trust me...they got EVERYTHING
I would not recommend. The sisters have terrible customer service and terrible bedside manners. They are too cheap in that they don’t want you to use any of their hair products during the appointment so you have to resort to bringing everything you would need for braids or styles. They play games with prices and try to get as much out of you as they can. I wanted my hair washed and they did such a poor job washing it with the cheap product Tresemme so you must come hair washed or they threaten to charge $80. They don’t even want to comb out your hair or blow-dry or they threaten to charge $90. They are just too greedy and disrespectful. I have been here a few times but will not be back they run it like a Zoo and need to schedule appointment with a calendar like most businesses. They were really late one day to open and as far as the quality of their work I would say average and certainly not exceptional. I try and support Black businesses. I would recommend going to Innovations in San Diego where they specialize in Black hair care and braids.
Prices on their synthetic hair is wonderful I haven't found the hair I found there at that price and a long time. Customer service was great!!! I was greeted Is with a hello and a nice smile. Young lady working behind the counter such a sweet bright young girl who was knowledgeable and helpful. This kind of customer service is difficult to find in beauty supply stores that cater to women of colors hair. So very refreshing to see I support!
Been going here for about a year now buying my hair products and I’ve noticed one charges more than what the tag says it is and don’t want to honor the correct price! Very disappointing!! Basically charging more than what the tag is and than try’s to argue with you like you can read what the price is listed on the products! Check prices before purchasing any items from here, majority of them are Not tagged now!!
Thank you astou and your sister you guys did a great job I recommend going there
