Quick Facts About Johnnie's Pastrami
Johnnie's Pastrami is a long-time popular fixture in Culver City, known for its fresh and delicious food. The restaurant has a nostalgic 50's diner decor, which adds to its charm. One of the strengths of Johnnie's is its consistency in providing good, friendly service. The staff is accommodating and takes good care of both long-time customers and tourists.
The pastrami sandwiches at Johnnie's are highly praised by customers. They are described as perfect, with the right amount of fat and large enough to share. The burgers are also highly recommended, as they are made to order and cooked the way the customer prefers. The meat at Johnnie's is considered to be super fresh and of high quality.
In addition to the food, Johnnie's also has a bar with a friendly staff, great drinks, and a chill vibe. The bar has indoor and outdoor seating, including a fire pit, making it a perfect destination for a date or hanging out with friends. The atmosphere is described as killer, and a DJ comes in at 9 PM, adding to the ambiance.
Parking at Johnnie's is easy, with a lot available and street parking as well. The restaurant is always clean and has comfortable booths and a counter. Outdoor seating is also available. The prices, however, are considered a weakness by some customers, who find them a bit high for what is offered. A meal for one person, including an appetizer, entree, and a soda, can exceed $40.
Another weakness mentioned by a customer is the presence of lots of kids running around the restaurant while their parents are drinking. While some people may not mind, others find it disruptive and feel that it takes away from the overall experience. However, this is a subjective issue and may not bother everyone.
Overall, Johnnie's Pastrami has many strengths. It has a long-standing reputation in the community, offers fresh and delicious food, and provides friendly service. The pastrami sandwiches and burgers are highly recommended, and the bar adds to the overall experience. While pricing and the presence of children may be considered weaknesses by some, they may not be enough to deter customers from enjoying their meal at Johnnie's.

I started eating at Johnnie's Pastrami in '85. Countless shrimp baskets, pastrami sandwiches since. Even back then they were already a long time popular fixture in Culver City.
Today I decided to keep it simple and I ordered a hamburger, cooked medium with onions. And I was not disappointed. Everything at Johnnie's is always fresh and delicious. And so was my burger.
When you're good with the simple things you can trust the rest of the menu. I've always recieved good friendly service. And I enjoy the original decor as well. It's like going back in time to the '50's.
And after all these years of accepting cash only, Johnnie's takes debit and credit cards now! I'm always satisfied after visiting Johnnie's Pastrami. I intend to visit again soon.
Best Christmas Eve lunch ever!!!!! Spur of the moment stop. Cash only so be prepared. The BEST pastrami ever! Super soft roll and amazing pastrami. The fries are not to be missed. Crinkle cut and crispy, so yummy. Try the taco, you have to eat it with a fork, not your ordinary taco, but fabulous!!! Staff is friendly and accommodating even though they are running around like crazy. Love this place.
Haven’t checked the restaurant but the bar is pretty awesome. Friendly staff, great drinks, chill vibe, and spacious. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. My girlfriend and I sat next to the fire pit ????. Perfect destination for a date or hanging with a group of friends. Killer atmosphere. DJ comes in at 9
Took a star off, as the place is a bit of a playground. Lotsa kids running around as their parents are getting hammer dog. All good though!
Will be back to try their pastrami sandwich!
Johnnie's has been around since at least the 60's. I recall there going as a kid. The family always loved it. Since then I have my own family and we go to Johnnie's at least once a month.
Parking is easy in their lot or on the street. It may look crowded, but they also have out door seating and take away. This time we got take away.
The place itself is always clean and looks sort of like a 50's diner. There are comfy booths and a counter. Out side is a fire pit with great seating around it.
The service is just excellent. The servers remember long time customers, this is a local's spot. They take such good care of everyone and they get your order right the first time. Tourists are welcome.
Their pastrami sandwiches are perfect. Huge and dipped. They have the perfect amount of fat and they are big enough to share. Their fries are also great as well as everything on their menu.
For the past few months I have been hooked on their burgers. They make it the way you want it. I can't stand well done burgers, which most places insist upon. Johnnie's will make my burger the way I want it, rare. They are not worried about their meat and I have been eating them like this since I was a kid. I never worry about getting sick and if I do, that is my problem, not theirs. The meat is super fresh and just so good. They will make it anyway you want and put on it whatever you want.
There is not one negative thing I can say about Johnnie's so go there.
Great Pastrami sandwich with great portion. Enjoyed it very much. Not sure if they take a credit card as we saw a sign by the register “Cash Only”. Good thing we had enough cash on me to pay for a meal.
Nostalgia is at its best. This brings back great childhood memories. Delicious hot pastrami presented on a fresh roll. They have a little bowl of yummy pickles they place on your table while you wait for your order like they did when I was a kid.
Decided to give Johnnie's Pastrami a try last night and would definitely recommend as a Culver City stopping point. It's a quaint little restaurant with almost a diner feel inside with 2 nice small patios on both sides featuring a fire pit. I choose to sit outside myself and enjoy the fire while dining. I ordered the Chili Fries with Cheese and Onions to start. The fries held up to the chili, which itself was a meaty chili (no beans) and was quite tasty. For the entrée I went with the Hot Corned Beef French Dip (personal preference over pastrami), which proportionally could have used a little more beef to bread ratio but did have great flavor and texture. Hot Tip: flip your sandwich over once you get it to prevent the bottom from getting soggy as the sandwich is predipped. Overall the experience was great, the waitress was so friendly, helpful and on top of it, food tasted excellent and the atmosphere was relaxing (even with being right along Sepulveda). The only thing is I believe pricing is a little high. Between the appetizer, entrée and a soda my bill was over $40 just for myself (which personally I thought was high for what you got).
They are now also now accepting cards for payment and have parking in the rear.
I usually eat at the hat when I want really good pastrami.. but saw this one on a reel and I had to try it out. Pastrami here is it better than the hat, it is fresh. There's no fat in there.. so you don't get any grizzle. The bread are humongous and therefore the fillings are humongous. The pics don't do it justice... the price for a pastrami is $17 or $18. We got onion rings also, they were ok, had a bit to much bearing for our liking.. i knew i shouldve gotten the fries. Heard they are great here.. next time. Id gladly drive 40 minutes in traffic for a pastrami of this calibur. I think next time i will actually breathe in between bites.. hahahahaha. Really great food. It's a small spot, but it's busy as hell. That tells me it's good...
