Quick Facts About Prattville/Autauga Humane Society

The Prattville/Autauga Humane Society has both strengths and weaknesses based on the comments provided.
One noticeable strength is the kindness and friendliness of the workers there. Commenters express positive experiences with the employees, mentioning names like Elizabeth. This indicates that the staff is knowledgeable, helpful, and creates a welcoming atmosphere for visitors and potential adopters.
Another strength highlighted in the comments is the responsible and considerate care given to the animals. There is praise for the clean environment, quick response to lost pets, and willingness to provide check-ups and shots for the animals. This demonstrates the dedication of the staff to maintaining a high standard of care for the animals in their facility.
Furthermore, commenters appreciate the efforts made by the Humane Society to find homes for the animals. They mention that the facility takes pictures of the animals and transports them to other places to enhance their chances of being adopted. The commitment to finding suitable homes for the animals and providing them with opportunities outside of the shelter is commendable.
However, there are also notable weaknesses mentioned in the comments. One recurring issue is the adoption of animals with underlying health conditions. Multiple commenters mention adopting animals that were later found to have ringworm or other skin issues. This raises concerns about the thoroughness of the health checks and vetting procedures conducted by the Humane Society before allowing adoptions. It is suggested that the animals should be fully healed or at least properly treated before being adopted.
Additionally, there are complaints about the communication and decision-making processes of the Humane Society. One commenter mentions being told that they could adopt a dog if it was still available on a certain day, only to find out later that the dog had been adopted by someone else. Another commenter expresses frustration about not being allowed to adopt a pet due to the location of their home, despite having a spacious home and the ability to provide proper care. These instances highlight a lack of transparency and communication between the staff and potential adopters, which can lead to disappointment and frustration.
In conclusion, the Prattville/Autauga Humane Society has strengths in terms of kind and friendly staff, responsible care for the animals, and efforts to find them suitable homes. However, weaknesses are evident in regards to vetting procedures for adoptions, as well as communication and decision-making processes. These weaknesses should be addressed and improved to ensure a better experience for both the animals and potential adopters.

Workers there are kind & friendly. Just beware if you’re adopting ANY animal from them, even if they look healthy please take them to get checked at the vet. We adopted two sweet kittens from here & one of them ended up having ring worm & giving it to the other kitty. Now we have two kittens with ring worm. The kitten had a bald spot on her face when we first adopted her that somehow turned into ringworm. There were other kittens there with skin issues (bald spots, spots that looked infected, etc). I understand it’s a lot to care for all the animals properly, especially if you’re short staffed, but common sense don’t let people adopt the animal until the animal is healed & not infected or at the very least treated properly.
(Mind you, we did get them checked at the vet cause we thought they had ear mites & the vet overlooked the area in question on her face.)
Just be cautious.
Awesome experience with the Prattville Humane Society! The employees are so nice & helpful, especially Elizabeth, who helped me with the adoption of my new puppy.
Found a dog I wanted to adopt on their website and called multiple times about him. 6 hour drive for me. They would not let me put down a deposit on him, but I was told if I called Friday and he was still there, they would not adopt him until I got there on Sat. So I called Friday after 4pm and told them I was coming on Sat. The dog was no longer available on Sat. Thanks a lot Robert!
Simply wonderful. I found exactly what I wanted to the letter. The team was great and very helpful and understanding.
The staff who run this facility are considerate and responsible concerning the animals that are housed there and the relationship that they share with their owners clean environment and quick response to lost pets
I took my mother to turn over some kittens. She told me that they would only keep them for 48hrs b4 they would put them to sleep, but was happy to find out that they keep them until their adopted as long as their healthy & have a good temperament. They will provide them a check up & their shots as well! They also take pics of them as well as transport them to other places (I 4got where) that will give them a better chance of being adopted! I'm so happy!???? The staff was very professional & you can tell that they really care about the animals & their well being & that's what matters! I just want to say thank you very much to all the staff & to all the people who work behind the scenes, that donate money, food, litter etc. as well as volunteering their time to help these beautiful innocent animals. God Bless You All!!! ????????????????????????????????
Imagine being on a list and promising to call someone to get a dog only to be skipped because they think because where you live you can’t handle or take care of An animal, I bet I make more money than 90% of the people who work here and have the experience to train and take care of the animal
I tried getting
I called back asking why I wasn’t called and was greeted with “the director said no because of where you live” even though I have a spacious home with plenty of yard and I love that they proceeded to give NO further explanation didn’t bother trying to call me, didn’t bother obtaining more details from me, just skipped to the next paying customer. Absolutely ridiculous getting my hopes up for 2 weeks and then this. If your trying to seriously adopt a pet, look else where unless your absolutely loaded with a 2 store home and 20 acres of land
I found a precious sweet young puppy out on my dirt road. I was going to try and keep him but my husband and I both work a lot of long hours all week long so it just wouldn't be fair for the poor guy! I called late in the afternoon and the woman told me to get there before 4 and they would take him in and they did and we are very grateful for there services.
