Quick Facts About Thai Canteen Davis
Thai Canteen in Davis Place has received a mix of positive and negative feedback from customers. In this analysis, we will examine the strengths and weaknesses of the restaurant based on these comments.
One of the strengths of Thai Canteen is its ample seating both indoors and outdoors. Customers appreciate the relaxing atmosphere and the large tables, making it a great place for gatherings with friends and family. The staff also receives praise for being attentive and friendly. Some reviewers even mention that the staff personally brought their orders outside the restaurant, indicating a high level of customer service.
Another strength mentioned by customers is the taste of the food. Many reviewers describe the flavors as excellent, with one even claiming it to be the best Thai food in the area. The positive comments regarding the taste suggest that the dishes are well-prepared and flavorful. Additionally, the fact that the restaurant is often busy with take-out orders implies that the food quality is consistent and appreciated by customers.
The variety of options on the menu is also seen as a strength by reviewers. Many mention that there are numerous vegetarian and vegan options available, which is especially valued by those with dietary restrictions. Furthermore, customers appreciate the generous portions of food served at Thai Canteen. The servings are described as bountiful and fantastic, indicating that customers feel they are getting their money's worth.
However, Thai Canteen also has areas for improvement based on customer feedback. One common complaint is regarding specific dishes. For example, one reviewer mentions being disappointed with the Tom Yum Vegetarian as it contained excessive broccoli and cabbage without any tofu. This suggests a lack of attention to detail in the preparation of the dish. Another reviewer mentions that the Pad Khing dish was a bit plain without the sauce and that the portion was small for the price. These comments indicate that consistency in flavor and portion size could be improved upon.
Another area for improvement is the wait time for orders. While some customers mention that their orders were ready quickly, others mention waiting for up to 45 minutes. This inconsistency in wait times could be frustrating for customers, especially if they have time constraints.
The atmosphere of Thai Canteen is also mentioned as a weakness by some reviewers. Although it is described as a good place for a quick bite or a friends' get-together, it is mentioned that it is not a fine dining restaurant. This suggests that the ambiance and overall dining experience may not be as upscale as some customers may prefer.
In conclusion, Thai Canteen in Davis Place has several strengths, including ample seating, a relaxing atmosphere, attentive staff, and excellent-tasting food. The variety of options and generous portions are also appreciated by customers. However, there are areas for improvement, such as consistency in dish preparation, portion sizes, and wait times. The atmosphere is also seen as lacking compared to fine dining establishments. Overall, Thai Canteen has great potential but could benefit from addressing these weaknesses to further enhance the dining experience.

Thai Canteen: I ordered the pad khing ($13) and an iced Thai tea ($4) for take-out. There is ample seating indoors (including bar stools around the counter area) as well as outside in the patio area. Relaxing atmosphere and plenty of seating with large tables, great for friend/family gatherings. Staff were attentive and friendly, they recommended rice dishes and personally came outside the restaurant with my order when it was ready (it took <20 min).
I chose mild as my spice level and I'm glad I did, the pad khing still had a nice kick to it but not to the point of tongue-numbness. The stir-fried chicken, mushrooms, bell peppers, and onions were a bit plain without the sauce and the ginger flavor was not as impactful as I expected. This dish is perhaps best enjoyed immediately when served, before the sauce is greedily soaked up by the rice, leaving the chicken dry. I felt the portion was a bit small for the price but noticed that it's probably due to the size of the container, where portions for dine-in seemed larger. The iced Thai tea has the usual familiar, comforting sweet taste of condensed milk and the price is about the same as elsewhere. Overall, the Thai Canteen offers dishes with great potential and is perhaps best enjoyed by dining in.
Disgusting. I ordered the Tom yum vegetarian and instead of putting in tofu they put in a truckload of broccoli and cabbage with NOTHING else. They said that it was an option on the menu! It tasted watery and plain. Don’t go here.
Ordered yellow curry, eggplant thai basil, and thai fish cakes. Amazing. HIT THE SPOT! Servings are generous too. Definitely will come back.
The food is excellent! You can tell by how busy it is and the number of take outs flying out of their kitchen. Many vegetarian/vegan options are available. The staff is friendly and curteous. I'm giving 3 stars for the atmosphere because it is not a fine dining restaurant but a diner for a quick bite or a friends get together or a business lunch (if you can find a quiet corner)
Fantastic proportions, very flavorful and Thai spice is spicy!
Ordered for delivery, pad gra prow with tofu (basil tofu) and pad kee mow with beef (drunken noodles) and it was delicious. Rice fluffy and bountiful and noodles were bouncy and packed full. You can even order the spice on the side.
The best Thai food in the area. I have had several meals here over the years. Outstanding service and food quality. Pictured is my most recent experience. Pork Belly. Take-Out only now. Very popular place. Worth waiting for. Highly Recommend. You must try.

Really great Thai food! There are so many options you can choose from and they are pretty cheap too; every dish is less then 10 dollar. Good place to eat by yourself or share with your friends. My favorite dish here is probably the Pad Thai. (You have to tell them if you want the full Thai spicy experience and they will probably add some fresh chilli into the dish to spice things up a bit.)
We had a take-out order of Pad Gra Prow and Green Curry, both with Tofu & Vegetables. Order took about 45 mins to be ready, which was good considering it was Valentine's day! Par Gra Prow tasted good, white the green curry was all right. We were a bit disappointed by the size of the portions - they were pretty small. Still, overall a positive experience!
