Quick Facts About The Village Fryer

The Village Fryer, located in Kessingland, has both strengths and weaknesses based on the comments provided. The strengths include the cleanliness of the chip shop, the staff's pleasantness, and the reasonable prices. On the other hand, the weaknesses include the average quality of the food, the overcooked fish cake, the strange aftertaste of the food, and the inconsistent quality of the chips.
Starting with the strengths, one commenter mentioned that the chip shop appeared clean, which is essential for maintaining hygiene standards. Additionally, they appreciated the fact that the ordering and payment system was designed for social distancing, taking orders on the far left and serving and taking payment on the far right. This demonstrates that the establishment is taking the necessary precautions to ensure the safety of their customers.
Another strength highlighted in the comments is the pleasantness of the staff. It is important for a customer to have a positive interaction with the staff as it contributes to their overall experience. Friendly and polite staff can make the visit more enjoyable and leave a lasting impression.
Reasonable pricing is another strength mentioned in the comments. The prices for various chip sizes were provided, and they seemed to be affordable. This can be a significant factor for customers, as they want to feel that they are getting value for their money.
Moving on to the weaknesses, one major drawback mentioned by several commenters is the quality of the food. The chips were described as average, and the breadcrumb fish cake was overcooked to the point of being dry, tasteless, and unpleasant. This inconsistency in the quality of the food can be off-putting for customers who are expecting a satisfying meal.
Furthermore, there was a mention of a strange aftertaste in the food, which may have been attributed to the cooking oil or vinegar used. A peculiar aftertaste can significantly impact the overall dining experience, as it can linger and affect the enjoyment of the meal.
Another weakness expressed by a commenter is the overcooked haddock and undercooked chips they received. Overcooking the haddock resulted in a hard and dry texture, while the chips were described as limp and pale. Inconsistent cooking can be a sign of poor quality control and can greatly impact the taste and texture of the food.
In terms of service, there were mixed reviews. While some commenters praised the friendly service, others complained about rude or slow service. One person mentioned being ignored while others who arrived later were served before them. Inconsistent service can greatly affect the overall experience and may lead to customers choosing not to return.
Despite the weaknesses mentioned, there were positive comments as well. One person mentioned that the chicken and mushroom pie, seppings sausages, and chips were tasty, while another praised the fish and chips, specifically the haddock. These positive experiences show that there is potential for the Village Fryer to improve and provide a satisfying dining experience.
Overall, The Village Fryer has some strengths, such as a clean establishment, friendly staff, and reasonable prices. However, the weaknesses, including average food quality, overcooked fish cake, strange aftertaste, inconsistent chip quality, and mixed service reviews, need to be addressed in order to provide a more consistent and enjoyable dining experience for customers.

Best TL Reviews

So we found it difficult to find somewhere open for food on a Monday in Kessingland.
After finding two closed fish & chip shops we discovered 'The Village Fryer'
Our first impression, the chip shop appeared clean and we really liked the fact; they take your order on the far left and serve and take payment on the far right.. great for maintaining social distancing.
The staff were very pleasant.
The food was reasonably priced, small chips £2, medium chips £2.20 and large chips £2.60. (Picture uploaded of current prices and options)
So far so good.. So why only 3 Stars?? Well the food itself was not great, the chips were very average, the sausage ok but the breadcrumb fish cake had been overcooked, verging on cremated, making it dry, tasteless and unpleasant.
All of the food had a strange 'twang' aftertaste, not sure whether this was the cooking oil or vinegar.
This was certainly not for us and we would not return.
Got chicken and mushroom pie, seppings sausages and chips. All of them were really tasty. Friendly people and decent prices/portions.
In the past I've had a mix of good and bad experiences with little consistency in the quality of the chips. I think the new staff they have are a dramatic improvement, especially as before I've been overcharged, had someone insult me, had someone just being rude by turning back and not taking my order etc. However, the last 2 times I've been, the chips have been the BEST, absolutely brilliant and curry sauce is really excellent too. The portion size has got smaller i noticed but the quality has gone way up and this more than makes up for it. If everything stays like this, I can see this place becoming very popular
Best fish and chips in Suffolk, I had the haddock which was out of this world, the chips were perfect to, very reasonably priced and they offer a delivery service, the village fryer is highly recommended.
The ordering system was strange with everything seemingly cooked to order even for popular items. I had a small haddock and chips. The haddock was definitely overcooked - the batter being a terracotta colour rather than the usual golden brown. It was hard and difficult to eat and the fish inside was dry and chewy rather than moist and flaky which most other chip shop haddocks are. On the other hand the chips seemed undercooked, limp and pale. The food itself being cooked fresh was super hot. I would not go back.
Very very very poor, rude service first thing just before midday. Waiting to be served and 3 people who walked in after me got served and placed orders before I even got spoken to so I ended up walking out.
Unfortunately you have lost 1 customer who was coming here for 5 years minimum..
Fish always fresh and sometimes huge pieces of fish. One portion of chips usually does both of us we have used this for many years and all through covid they had a good system
They always judge a fish& chip shop by the Queue, Well not @this establishment,, Only because they have, a very healthy amount of customers that pre order, We only waited 8-10 minutes for the Best fish & chips you will get anywhere in Suffolk, I've tried all the rest! These are the best!!
