Quick Facts About The Welcome Inne
The Welcome Inne is a restaurant located in the heart of Scarborough town centre. It boasts friendly and professional staff, a great location, and delicious food. However, there are some weaknesses that have been pointed out by customers.
Starting with the strengths, one customer mentions that the location of the restaurant is great. Being in the heart of the town centre makes it easily accessible and convenient for customers. Additionally, the staff is described as friendly and professional. This is important as it creates a welcoming atmosphere for customers. The food is also praised, with one customer specifically mentioning the fish and chips special as being great. The chips are described as beautiful, the fish as lovely, and the bread and butter as great. This positive feedback on the food indicates that the quality is generally good.
Moving on to the weaknesses, one customer expresses disappointment with the size of the plates. They felt that the plates were a bit small, which was a negative aspect of their experience. Another customer specifically mentions that the pie they ordered was not great and suggests that it should be taken off the menu. This suggests that there may be inconsistencies in the quality of certain menu items.
Another customer points out that the restaurant has gone downhill since their last visit. They felt unwelcome by the staff and were disappointed with the quality of the food. This indicates a decline in both service and food quality over time. The undercooked fish in hard, scrappy batter and the weirdly colored mushy peas were mentioned as specific examples of poor quality food. The customer also mentions that even the teapot was dirty, which indicates a lack of attention to cleanliness.
Another customer had a mixed experience, with their meal being fine but encountering several issues. They were satisfied with their gammon and chips, but their partner was unimpressed with their fish and chips. The customer mentions that there were different sizes of fish available, but the waitress failed to inform them of this option. This lack of communication led to their partner not getting the desired portion size. Additionally, the customer mentions that mushy peas were not included in the fish and chip meal, which they found surprising. The presentation of the tartare sauce in sachets rather than a dish was also mentioned as a disappointment. The customer also observed and was bothered by the conversations taking place between the manager and younger staff, as they felt it was inappropriate for these conversations to occur near customers. They also noted that the staff were performing cleaning tasks and maintenance while customers were still eating, which created a less than ideal dining experience.
On the positive side, one customer had an absolutely lovely meal and thoroughly enjoyed their experience. They found the food to be amazing and appreciated the cleanliness of the toilets. They did, however, mention that the large drinks were not much bigger than regular drinks and had a watered-down flavor.
Unfortunately, there is a very negative review from a customer who refers to the restaurant as "The Not So Welcome Inne." They had an unpleasant experience from the start, with a surly and inattentive waitress. The food was described as abysmal, with fish and onion rings swimming in grease and burgers having a strange color. The sauces were also criticized as being of poor quality. The customer also highlights a lack of care for their child's safety, as the waitress placed hot drinks and food directly in front of their baby, causing harm. The customer was dissatisfied with the service and the quality of the food, and found the bill to be too high for the subpar experience.
Finally, one customer had a positive experience with the full English breakfast. They enjoyed the food and found it to be amazing, particularly praising the portion size and the price.
In conclusion, The Welcome Inne has several strengths, such as its convenient location, friendly staff, and delicious food. However, there are notable weaknesses, including inconsistencies in food quality, issues with service, and lack of attention to cleanliness. These weaknesses should be addressed in order to improve the overall dining experience for customers.
Best TL Reviews
Went here today for lunch with my Mum and Dad. Great location in the heart of Scarborough town centre with friendly and professional staff and great food (I had the fish and chips special). Beautiful chips, lovely fish and great bread and butter! Only bad thing was the plates were a bit small but apart from that I highly recommend here! :)
All photos of the food looked great, I ordered the pie and it was not great. Chips where really nice, restaurant was clean and tidy. Honestly the pie was that bad it should just be taken off the menu, it just lets the place down. Sorry and I hope the owner see this review as constructive criticism.
This place has gone down hill since our last visit no welcome from the staff it costs nothing to smile the food was terrible fish in undercooked batter hard scrappy chips snd the mushy peas were just a wierd colour.
Even the teapot was dirty such a disappointment at just over £30 we don't expect restaurant quality but this was awful.
My meal was fine, I had the gammon. Can't fault it and the chips were good (gotta have good chips!). Partner not impressed with his - he ordered the fish; he says it tasted fine but he didn't know there was small, regular or large fish available, waitress never mentioned this when he ordered. We spotted this on the board outside when we left which we didn't spot on the way in. Had he been asked he'd have ordered the jumbo as he's not a small bloke! Also, mushy peas not included in fish and chip meal! £1 extra. Who doesn't have mushy peas with their fish and chips?! Tartare sauce was in sachets, not in a dish. I'd have thought a fishing town would have actually made more of their fish and chip meal.
Service was OK - they were quicker to take payment after our meal than they were to take our order but whatever.
What I wasn't impressed with was the conversations taking place between manager (?) and younger staff; she was very much in charge and giving orders to young ones - that's fair enough - but did it have to be done 2 tables away from where customers were sitting? Conversations about cleaning the bins, getting the mop out, dirty tea towels, telling the young lad to come back and clean the bins and not leave the young lass to do it... Either find a way to be more discreet or take the staff into the kitchen to give them orders. Staff taking bin bag out through the restaurant while customers still eating. Started vacuuming while customers still eating. I've worked hospitality before and my restaurant manager would never have done this on the restaurant floor whilst customers were still eating.
I wouldn't go back here. Yes my food was fine, but the other issues spoiled it for me.
A***** absolutely lovely meal, throughly enjoyed.
We had 1x Jumbo Haddock and chips, 2x Haddock and chips and 1x Cod and Chips, 3x Large Drinks, 1 regular drink and 1 can and it come to £62. Which for a lovely meal for 4 adults I do not think it was too bad.
The food was all freshly cooked and was amazing. Toilets were excellent and clean. If I had one thing to disagree with the large drinks were nearly £2.95 each and was not much bigger than a regular at £1.95. Also the Lemonadr and Diet Pepsi had a very watered down flavour.
But despite this there was canned drinks available and the food was that amazing I have still given it 5 stars as ultimately its the food that makes the meal and not a drink.
So highly recommend.
The Not So Welcome Inne.
If I could leave 0 stars, I would.
We arrived and were vaguely waved towards a booth, by a waitress who could only be described as clearly hating her job. We settled our little boy into the high chair, who’s 1st birthday was the reason for the Scarborough trip, and began looking at the menu. She took our orders sulkily. When she brought our drinks over, all but one of the drinks including a latte, were placed directly in front of our little boy who as children do, grabbed for them. We hastily moved them out of his way whilst asking her not to do that.
When the food was brought out, she arrived with two plates of fish and chips, said “haddock and chips?” And then plonked them both down on the table without saying which was which (one was cod) and AGAIN directly in front of our little boy who grabbed a handful of hot chips. My husband moved the plate as quickly as he could but the damage was already done. She then practically threw my food at me and banged my brother-in-law’s food in front of him.
The other waitress noticed our distress and came over to speak to us and when we mentioned her colleague’s surly attitude, said she had also noticed it. I asked to speak to the manager but was told she was incapable of coming downstairs. I then told her in no uncertain terms to keep her colleague away from my baby as she clearly doesn’t care and is dangerous around children.
The food was abysmal. The fish, both of them, were swimming in grease, as were the onion rings, the burgers were a bizarre colour, almost purple, and the sauces were the cheapest of the cheap.
Laughably, the bill came in at over £60. Suffice it to say, we did NOT pay the full £60 which despite the clearly raised issues seemed to be expected of us.
If you’re looking for a hearty meal with lovely service whilst visiting the seaside, DO NOT go to The Welcome Inn as the bitter taste it left in our mouths didn’t come purely from the atrocious food.
Full English breakfast awful. Don't do it. The cheapest, most anaemic sausages I've ever seen. Awful. And the extra portion of mushrooms clearly cooked in the oil that they cook the fish and chips in. Really, really bad. Eggs okay. Bacon okay. Hash browns okay. But the sausages and mushrooms absolutely ruin it.
Ordered the light bite for 2. The portion size was huge and the food was amazing! Highly recommended! Best food we've had while being here. The amount we paid was a bargain.
