Quick Facts About White Lion of Mortimer
The White Lion of Mortimer pub has received several positive comments regarding its friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The bar lady, Tracey, is specifically praised for her warm welcome and helpfulness. This creates a positive first impression and contributes to a pleasant experience for customers. The staff in general are described as amazing and friendly, creating a welcoming environment for patrons. The friendliness of the locals is also highlighted, indicating a positive community atmosphere within the pub.
Another strength mentioned is the good prices for drinks. This is seen as a positive aspect of the pub, as it offers affordable options for customers. In addition, the pub is praised for its selection of beers, indicating a diverse range of choices for patrons. The reasonable drink prices and variety of options contribute to the overall positive experience at the pub.
The pub's history and local heritage are also seen as strengths. The display of local history and celebrity photographs adds to the unique atmosphere of the pub. This creates a sense of connection to the surrounding community and adds to the overall ambiance. Additionally, the unique carpet pattern associated with Wetherspoon pubs adds to the character and distinction of the establishment.
One of the specific strengths mentioned is the helpfulness of the pub in accommodating special events. The staff, particularly Tracey, are commended for their assistance in arranging a wake and providing a vegan menu option. This displays their willingness to go above and beyond to meet the needs of their customers and ensure a positive experience. The flexibility and helpfulness of the staff contribute to the overall strengths of the pub.
However, there are also weaknesses mentioned in the comments. One customer mentions that the pub has lost its kitchen, which may be seen as a drawback for those seeking a dining experience. This change could potentially reduce the overall appeal of the pub for some customers. Additionally, limited seating space is mentioned, which may detract from the comfort and convenience of patrons. The fact that the seating is mainly used by smokers could also be seen as a potential disadvantage for non-smoking customers.
Furthermore, the comment about the pub now functioning as a one-way system due to COVID-19 restrictions suggests a potential inconvenience for customers. The change in entrances and exits may disrupt the flow and ease of access, potentially affecting the overall customer experience. Additionally, the limited outdoor seating options further restrict the available space for patrons.
In conclusion, the White Lion of Mortimer pub has several strengths that contribute to a positive experience for customers. These include the friendly staff, reasonable drink prices, diverse selection of beers, local history displays, and helpfulness in accommodating special events. However, there are also weaknesses mentioned, such as the loss of the kitchen, limited seating space, and potential inconvenience caused by COVID-19 restrictions. Overall, the strengths outweigh the weaknesses and contribute to a welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere at the pub.

For friendliness and the warm welcome received by bar lady (wish i got her name) - I dont live in the area so won't be back, but a warm welcome goes along way... especially on a cold and very wet Sunday afternoon!
What an amazing pub to work at, the customers are friendly. Staff are amazing (although I’m bias ;) ) amazing atmosphere. Truly a great experience
Nice friendly staff behind the bar. Good prices for drinks and great entertainment.
Friendly locals local pub, would have liked to stay longer, but things to do etc etc. Thank you for the hospitality
Still going strong, they have lost the kitchen (bloody cost of living etc!), but have retained all the good parts. Great locals and good staff.
Tracey has been fantastic. We have been trying to sort a venue for our mum's wake. Tracey and the bar staff who took the call were very helpful and got the tone 'just right' for us. Tracey provided photos of food she had recently prepared for a party and was prepared to hand make all the food, including everything having a vegan option. She sent a WhatsApp tour (I am based in the Midlands) and a proposed menu to me on the next day.
The pub was very accommodating about my brother's disability when he visited and we really can't fault the people. Eventually, we chose another venue as we needed a car park for elderly/disabled relatives who are attending but if you are thinking of approaching the pub for a small 'do, I would say go for it. Highly recommended by us and a definite for a drink when I am down that way again. Thanks Tracey :-)
Nice and friendly staff and well priced with a good selection of beers
Originally called the Buck's Head, the pub was rebuilt around 1898/1900 and was operated by Hoare's Brewery until 1933 when they were taken over by Charringtons. It was renamed in 1990 to the White Lion of Mortimer when it was taken over by Wetherspoons, who had the pub until 2018.
I visited the pub on Sunday 26th July 2020. Of the three entrances two are now in use as a one-way system for covid.
The entrance is now on the side of the pub opposite the Mitcham Islamic Centre. There is a hand-cleaning dispenser on your right as you go in and a table in front of you with the sign-in sheet for NHS Test and Trace.
The corner entrance is not in use, and the exit is now the double doors at the south eastern part of the pub, which leads on to the streetside seating area. There is another outside seating area at the back, but that doesn't have access to the street. Seating space is limited, and used mainly by smokers.
You order at the bar where striped tape is placed to show which parts of the bar not to use. There are signs asking you to not stand at the bar after buying drinks. Cards are accepted for payment as well as cash.
The local history displays, a feature of Wetherspoons pubs, remain on the walls and there is an interesting mixture of local celebrities and old time photos. The carpet is also a Wetherspoon unique patterned one.
Drinks prices are very reasonable.
Photo is of the building in 2017 (when it was a Wetherspoons) which shows the entrance door.
