Quick Facts About Coity Castle
Coity Castle has several strengths that make it a popular destination for visitors. Firstly, it offers the appeal of a ruined castle, which many people find fascinating and enjoyable to explore. The ability to wander around the castle and engage in activities like hide and seek adds to the entertainment value for both children and adults. Additionally, the nearby small playground with swings and a rope climbing/spinning structure provides additional recreational opportunities for kids.
Another strength of Coity Castle is its peaceful and serene atmosphere. Visitors appreciate the opportunity to take a stroll and escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It is described as a lovely place to get away from it all and the perfect location for those seeking tranquility. The castle is also well maintained, and visitors commend the efforts put into its upkeep.
The future potential of Coity Castle is also seen as a strength. Although currently being renovated, the castle is quite a large site, and visitors are intrigued about what it may become once the renovations are complete. This anticipation adds an element of excitement for those who plan to visit in the future.
One visitor highlights the fact that Coity Castle is a free attraction, making it accessible to everyone. Although there may not be much to explore inside or up the castle, being able to enter for free is a significant draw. Families with children appreciate the ample space for kids to run around, including the remains of the moat. Additionally, there is a children's play park adjacent to the small car park, providing even more entertainment options for young visitors.
The historical and cultural value of Coity Castle is another strength that attracts those with an interest in castles. Reviewers recommend including it on the list of must-see castles due to its unique charm and history. The castle ruins are described as awe-inspiring and a well-preserved piece of history. Its location in the middle of town adds to its appeal as a convenient cultural attraction.
Now, moving on to the weaknesses of Coity Castle. One visitor expresses disappointment upon arriving to find the castle closed, despite information from Cadw and Google stating that it should be open. This kind of misinformation can lead to upset, especially if travelers have made specific plans or have young children excited to visit. It is crucial for accurate opening times to be communicated to visitors to avoid such situations.
One significant weakness identified by a visitor is the presence of rubbish in and around the sunken parts of the castle. This is described as heartbreaking to see and raises concerns about the maintenance and cleanliness of the site. Visitors urge others to take their rubbish with them, highlighting the need for responsible behavior from visitors to preserve the castle's beauty.
Although Coity Castle is praised for its charming and well-preserved remains, one visitor expresses concern that further deterioration could occur. They hope that the castle remains well looked after in the future. While this concern is understandable, it is important to note that efforts are being made to renovate and maintain the castle, as mentioned earlier.
Lastly, some visitors suggest that spending more than a couple of hours at Coity Castle may not be ideal, as there may not be enough to keep one entertained for an extended period. The small size of the castle grounds and limited areas to explore inside the castle might limit the overall experience for those seeking a longer visit.
In conclusion, Coity Castle has several strengths such as its appeal as a ruined castle, the opportunity for recreational activities, its peaceful atmosphere, and its historical value. However, it also has weaknesses including inaccurate opening time information, the presence of rubbish, concerns about further deterioration, and limited entertainment options for longer visits. Despite its weaknesses, Coity Castle is generally well-regarded and worth a visit, particularly for those interested in history and seeking a peaceful escape.

Who doesn’t love a ruined castle?! Fab to wander around and great for hide and seek. Small playground adjacent with swings and rope climbing/spinning thingy!
Lovely place to take a stroll and get away from it all. A must see.
Currently being renovated, but quite a big site - will be interesting to see what becomes of it!
Just arrived here to find it shut despite cadw and Google stating it is open from 10am til 4pm. We've got one very upset toddler on our hands but while we're in the area we will try Ogmore castle and hope for better luck.
First time to this castle and although there isn’t much you can go into or up it is free to enter.
Plenty of space for kids to run around including the remains of the now empty moat. There is a kids play park by the small car park.
If your take an interest is castles this should be on your list.
Awesome castle ruins and very well looked after.
Entrance is opposite to the post office
Bad points. The rubbish in and around the sunken parts of the castle is heartbreaking to see.
TAKE YOUR RUBBISH HOME WITH YOU !!!!
Beautiful remains, a little spot of peace + history in the middle of town. Well looked after + hopefully it won't deteriorate further. Well worth an hour to walk around + just sit + think.
Coity Castle is a great little castle only a few minutes drive from Bridgend or alternatively you could catch the local bus to the Coity post office which is only a 150m walk away. The castle grounds are quite small but you can take a walk around the perimeter to get a better idea of how big it once was. The grounds themselves are idea for picnics and basking in the sun but i can’t imagine spending more than a couple of hours without wanting to move on. You can also climb quite high if you ignore the warnings climb up the broken staircases.
