Quick Facts About Oriental Express
Oriental Express place has received a mix of positive and negative comments. In order to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the restaurant, we will examine both the positive and negative aspects mentioned in the comments.
Starting with the strengths, one of the most prominent strengths of Oriental Express place is its food. Multiple comments praise the food as "absolutely lovely" and "tasty and hot." Customers enjoy the variety of choices available, and the fact that they can put as much food as they like on their plates. The buffet style allows for a substantial meal at an affordable price, making it a great option for families on a budget. The presence of an ice-cream machine that never fails is also appreciated by customers, especially kids.
Another strength mentioned in the comments is the owner and staff. Customers describe them as "spot on," polite, and genuinely helpful. The staff's willingness to accommodate special requests and go the extra mile for customers is highlighted positively.
The pricing of the meals is also seen as a strength. Customers mention that the prices are good, with adult meals costing £9.50 and young children meals priced at £4.50 during the daytime until 17:00. The reasonable pricing adds value to the overall dining experience.
Additionally, the restaurant's location and views over Cleethorpes Boating Lake are mentioned as positive aspects. Customers appreciate the nice views while enjoying their meals.
Now, let's move on to the weaknesses mentioned in the comments. The most significant weakness seems to be the quality and availability of the food. Negative comments mention limited menu options, absence of certain dishes such as duck, prawns, seaweed, and salads. Some customers also complain of stale and bland flavors, with food being described as having an odd stale taste. The size of the buffet is criticized as being small compared to other buffets, and certain items are not replenished promptly.
Another weakness highlighted is the staffing situation. Some comments mention that there is only one staff member running multiple tasks, including bar service, clearing tables, restocking, and payments. This leads to delays and inefficiencies in service, which negatively impact the overall dining experience.
One customer also mentions a discrepancy in pricing, stating that they were charged full price despite a different price being advertised on the website. This inconsistency in pricing is seen as a weakness.
Finally, a negative comment suggests that the restaurant has declined in quality over the years, possibly due to the impact of COVID-19. The absence of certain food options and variations compared to previous visits is seen as a negative change.
In conclusion, Oriental Express place has several strengths, including excellent food, reasonable prices, polite staff, and nice views. However, there are weaknesses in terms of the quality and availability of certain dishes, the size of the buffet, staffing issues, pricing inconsistencies, and a perceived decline in quality. It is essential for the restaurant to address these weaknesses in order to maintain and improve its reputation and customer satisfaction.

Do yourself a favour and visit this buffet restaurant. Food is absolutely lovely, with nice wine as well, to top it off the owner and staff are spot on. Anything else you want, just ask and they will get it for you.. Next time we come down from Geordieland it's definitely on our list. Good prices as well. What's not to like
Thanks very much????
Excellent food as always, kids enjoy going as they can put as much of the food they like on their plates. Always a bonus is the ice-cream machine never fails unlike Mcd's across the road ????
Don't expect a-la-carte. You will get a substantial meal for the price in the daytime. You can't go wrong especially if you are on a budget with a family for a buffet style meal.
There is plenty of choice to go at and plenty of it if you are hungry. Even for those not fully into oriental food.
Amazingly for as many years as I can remember the sausages have been a favourite pick to put on the plate with other choices.
Nice views over Cleethorpes Boating Lake.
Adults only £9.50 for meals. Young children
£4.50 at time of writing during the daytime until 17:00. All drinks reasonably priced.
The worst I’ve ever been to in my life.
What a sad excuse of a buffet very limited menu.
No duck. no prawns. No seaweed. No salads.
Stale dry noodles and a couple of basic dishes. The whole time we were there no chips were available. They have one lad running the whole thing. Bar, payments clearing tables and re stocking. Show me how tight the owner is reflects on his food and staffing.
I’ve been to £4.99 buffets better than this. What was available had no flavour. Even the ice cream for the kids is just one flavour ice cream no sauces or sprinkles.
Nothing tasted as it should. Very very bland and odd stale taste to it.
The whole buffet is about the size of a the salad bar at any other buffet you will Visit. The drinks were flat too.
They also charged us full price as apparently the early price on the website doesn’t exist anymore.
Please avoid.
Granddaughter took me for birthday treat was all you can eat, food was tasty and hot good choices had a spoonful of everything went back for more and had icecream for dessert
Polite staff
Lack of food even though it was tea time 4.30pm
Food was cold and dried from where it had been sat for some time.
Price was ridiculous considering what was available to eat.
This is not the place it was a couple of years ago! It's almost like a ghost restaurant. Even the variation of food has changed ( no longer a small Indian curry choice )
I think covid times has hit this once thriving buffet restaurant and they need to shape up or close down to be honest.
Absolutely appalling! The salt and pepper pork was off, sour and rock hard. They took it away after my complaint without even an apology! There was hardly any food, most were empty and hadn't been refilled by the time we left. I will never ever return!
Lovely food, especially rather enamoured by the ice-cream.
Staff were genuinely polite and helpful (which I appreciated considering it was so busy) just a nice place for a bite to eat with the family.
