Quick Facts About Tang's
Tang's Place is a Chinese restaurant located in Southampton. It has received mixed reviews from customers, with both positive and negative comments about the food, service, and overall experience. In this analysis, we will examine the strengths and weaknesses of Tang's Place based on the comments provided.
First, let's discuss the strengths of Tang's Place. One customer mentions that the food is tasty and authentic, while another enjoyed the sweet honey glazed pork. This suggests that there are some dishes on the menu that are well-prepared and flavorful. Another positive aspect is the friendly and helpful staff. One reviewer commends the owner for being nice and friendly, and the staff for being kind and helpful. A knowledgeable and attentive staff can greatly enhance the dining experience.
Furthermore, the buffet option is mentioned positively in one comment. Customers appreciate being able to order as much as they like and having a variety of dishes to choose from. Reasonable prices are also highlighted, indicating that Tang's Place offers good value for money.
However, there are several weaknesses that need to be addressed. The most common complaint is the quality of the food. Multiple customers mention that their meals tasted bad, with old oil and dirty pans being used to cook the dishes. One person specifically mentions that the spring rolls and fried squid were oily and reheated. Another customer even experienced food poisoning after dining at Tang's Place. These issues suggest that there may be problems with the hygiene and food preparation practices in the kitchen.
The service at Tang's Place is also criticized. While some comment on the friendly and helpful staff, others mention instances of poor service. One customer states that their request for chopsticks resulted in receiving chips instead. Another comment highlights the staff's lack of understanding when asked about green tea. These incidents suggest a lack of attention to customer needs and poor communication between staff and customers.
Additionally, the atmosphere and overall dining experience are mentioned negatively in some reviews. One customer describes the atmosphere as brash and uncompromising, with local drunks causing disruptions in the restaurant. Another person mentions the lack of complimentary items such as crackers and fortune cookies, as well as the absence of basic serving utensils. These complaints indicate a lack of attention to detail and a failure to create a pleasant and comfortable environment for customers.
Finally, an issue with the billing practice is mentioned in one comment. The inclusion of a service fee on the bill is seen as optional, but customers need to specifically request its removal if they are not satisfied. This practice may be seen as misleading or manipulative and can lead to customer dissatisfaction.
In conclusion, Tang's Place has both strengths and weaknesses based on the comments provided. The positive aspects include tasty food, friendly service, reasonable prices, and the buffet option. However, there are significant weaknesses in the form of poor food quality, inconsistent service, and a subpar dining experience. These negative aspects should be addressed in order for Tang's Place to improve and regain customer satisfaction.

Avoid. Very disappointed as we liked it a few years ago. First of all our food tasted like it was made on very old oil and dirty pan. I & my partner had 2 different dishes and both of them tasted the same bad. (Sweet and sour chicken and pork with vegetable + soups) Second you can see the dishwasher room from the restaurant and what surprised me they wash all by hand with very dirty sponges, I was shocked. And the service is very bad. We asked for chopsticks and got chips instead?! Also the lady who served us didn’t understand what green tea is. It’s sad overall because we really liked the restaurant before. Also, they include a service fee in the bill, keep in mind it’s not mandatory to pay so you need to ask them to take it out of your bill if not satisfied.
£26.75 - lunch buffet, expensive for the overall quality !
Starters- very “shinny” oily , in particular the spring rolls . The fried squid was reheated and again, so oily ! From the main dish I had only the 3(!) prawns and little rice. The crispy duck was ok, therefore the 1 star I offered.
The cutlery was cheap, too. Service - basic.
I’m not gonna punish my health and pocket by eating there again. Avoid !
5 stars for this great Chinese restaurant with tasty authentic food, friendly service, and reasonable prices. We are there for a buffet which you can order as much as you like. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. Definitely worth a visit.
Ate here Friday 2nd December and had food poisoning. Our food was reheated from the lunchtime buffet, even though we ordered from the main menu. Prices have gone sky high for poor quality food and service. I have eaten here a few times before and never had an issue, but will never eat there again.
Despicable
This surely has to be one of the least enjoyable experiences I have ever had in a Chinese or any other restaurant
Refused to serve me the entry-level Set Meal A at £25, because this serves 2 and I was the only person in the restaurant. I ordered from the menu - one starter (ribs), one main (shredded beef), egg rice, two 330ml Tsingdao beers. £45.
No complimentary items such as crackers, fortune cookies or even wipes. No finger bowl for the ribs, no serving spoons, nothing.
The food was bland, the atmosphere brash and uncompromising, and then the local drunks started to arrive. One demanded food and was entertained with a 10 minute conversation before giving up and going away. Another two sat at a table and began a belching competition
£45, and all I wanted was a quiet evening with maybe a couple of beers. KFC, Burger King, Yates, Slug & Lettuce and a dozen other alternatives are within a minute's walk. £45. Was I mugged, or am I a mug? Probably both, but this is one to avoid.
Went there tonight for the first time with my partner. We both had the buffet menu. It was absolutely lovely and I would highly recommend it.
good one, duck is very delicious
Definitely love this restaurant! The owner is very nice and friendly and staff was kind and helpful. I love the sweet honey glazed pork. Definitely Gonna recommend people to visit this restaurant in Southampton!
