Quick Facts About The Black Horse
The Black Horse, based on the comments provided, has a number of strengths and weaknesses. Starting with the strengths, the pub is described as a "bodenständige" (down-to-earth) establishment. It is praised for serving a quick beer, making it a convenient and accessible place for locals. The fact that one customer can imagine having multiple drinks there suggests that the atmosphere is comfortable and inviting.
Another strength mentioned is the friendliness of both the locals and the staff. The pub is described as nice, and the presence of interesting sports memorabilia adds character to the place. It is also noted that the pub was quiet during a specific sports event, which suggests that it provides a relaxed environment for watching games.
Moving on to the weaknesses, one comment highlights a lack of basic information regarding the separate bars for drinks and food. This could cause confusion and inconvenience for customers who are not aware of this arrangement. It is suggested that the staff could improve by providing clearer information about the ordering process.
In terms of the Indian food offered at the pub, there is a mix of positive and negative feedback. Some customers praise the quality and spicing of the food, describing it as fresh and perfectly cooked. The staff is also commended for their friendliness and welcoming attitude, creating a family-oriented atmosphere. The chef's interaction with customers is seen as a positive aspect, as it demonstrates confidence in the cooking and a willingness to ensure customer satisfaction.
However, there are also critical remarks regarding the Indian food. One comment highlights a dish (dal makhani) that was not enjoyed and a lack of consideration from the server. The portion sizes are also mentioned as being slightly too high for the prices charged. Another customer expresses disappointment in the lack of authentic Indian seasoning, excessive oiliness, and lack of understanding of Indian cooking techniques. Despite voicing concerns, the replacement dish offered was also disappointing. This inconsistency in the quality and authenticity of the Indian food indicates a weakness in the pub's culinary offerings.
Unrelated to the food and drink, one comment mentions the presence of loud groups in the bar, which can negatively impact the overall atmosphere for other customers looking for a quieter experience.
In conclusion, The Black Horse has strengths in terms of being a down-to-earth pub with friendly staff and interesting sports memorabilia. It provides a convenient place for locals to have a quick drink and watch sports. However, weaknesses are evident in terms of the lack of basic information about the separate bars, the inconsistency and lack of authenticity in the Indian food, and the occasional presence of loud groups in the bar. Improving these aspects could enhance the overall experience for customers at The Black Horse.

Das Black Horse ist das bodenständige Pub um die Ecke für ein schnelles Bier. Ich kann mir auch gut zwei, drei oder mehr davon vorstellen.
Quiet when we arrived to watch the Wales v USA match. Friendly locals and staff. Nice pub with interesting sports memorabilia on display
Result could've been better, but I don't think the pub could do much about that!
1st time ever visiting yesterday. Worth knowing drinks and food have separate bars and servers for orders. Both lacking basic info on opposite department. Anyway, we came to try their Indian food. Most of it was good, aside of dal makhani. Our server never actually asked if we liked it, even after chasing her to get us some salt (for plain tasting daal). Lamb and pakoras were really good, however portions towards prices felt a lil bit too high.
What I literally hated was the bar server sitting a table away from us (we were only customers in entire place) and wathich stupid videos on his phone. Obviously without headphones and any consideration for others trying to have a nice meal.
Food was ok and a very loud group in the bar
Absolutely lovely, travelled from Birmingham to try this restaurant out due to many recommendations from family and friends and it does not disappoint. Food was really good, all fresh and perfectly spiced (for me personally I could've done with some lime or lemon quarters with the food but I didn't ask the staff even though I know they would've sorted it out if I asked but that's my personal preference) the staff were really friendly and made to feel really welcome, nice family orientated restaurant. Defo one on the list for coming to again. Keep up to the good hospitality and quality of food.
2nd time here both times have not been disappointed. Left it for the 2nd time before a review because I couldn't believe how good the food was the first time. I wanted to try it again just to make sure it wasn't the beer talking (I'd been to the rugby) Both times we sat around in the restaurant part. This time we went for garlic mushrooms and garlic chicken to start followed by lamb madras and a kali mirch with rice and naans. The naans were lovely and light and all the meals were fab. What I really liked about this place and it happened the first time we were here the chef actually comes out to speak to you and ask if everything is OK, that's confidence in your cooking.
I popped in for a bite to eat last night and lo and behold the landlord is a Liverpool FC fan due to the memorobilia and framed portraits around the place. The food was actually quite tasty aswell(and not expensive, a meal was just over a tenner). I would go back there at the drop of a hat..
Honestly it's been years since I last visited, and to be honest I was hoping for great things.
Authentic Indian food at its best.
Sadly, that was not the case, the food lacked basic Indian seasoning, overly oily and a complete lack of understating of Indian cooking techniques.
The service from the dining staff was perfect.
I voiced some of my concerns and in all fairness they listened and relayed the same to the kitchen, whom offered an alternate dish which I ordered, (the original was not charged for), however the replacement was equally disappointing.
Wow, was looking for good Indian food and got something that just as not authentic.
Just not what I thought I was going get.
