Quick Facts About Berkhamsted Fish Bar
Berkhamsted Fish Bar, located in Berkhamsted, has received a mix of positive and negative comments from customers. In order to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the place, we will examine the comments individually and evaluate their significance.
The first comment mentions the lack of free use of salt and vinegar, which the customer considers to be a crime. This may be a weakness of the fish bar as it can result in bland chips. However, it is important to consider that this could be due to COVID-19 restrictions, as mentioned in the comment. The customer suggests that the containers should be wiped down to provide a safer way for customers to season their chips. This criticism can be seen as a weakness in terms of customer satisfaction.
On the other hand, the comment also mentions that the customer will likely be back, indicating that despite this weakness, they still enjoy the food enough to consider returning. This suggests that the strength of the fish and chips may outweigh the inconvenience of not having free access to salt and vinegar.
Moving on to the next comment, the customer praises the location and opening hours of the fish bar. This can be seen as a strength, as it suggests convenience for customers, especially those who may be craving fish and chips late at night. The fact that they mention being "recommended" and finding it "worth the visit" also indicates that the fish bar has a positive reputation among locals.
The comment also mentions the quality and taste of the fish and chips. This is another strength, as it suggests that the food is delicious and satisfying. The fact that they mention it was freshly cooked adds to the perception of quality. The customer also appreciates that the excess oil is allowed to drip, indicating attention to detail in the cooking process.
However, the comment does mention that the fish is greasy, which can be seen as a weakness. While the customer still finds it tasty, the greasiness may deter some customers who prefer a less oily texture. The comment also mentions that the curry sauce is too thin, indicating room for improvement in the condiments offered.
The next comment provides a very positive review, praising the fish and chip's taste, texture, and quality. This is a significant strength, as it indicates that the fish and chips are consistently good. The fact that the customer uses words like "highly recommended" and "comfort food" further emphasizes the excellence of the food.
The comment also mentions that the chips are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, which is another strength. The texture of the chips is an important aspect of fish and chips, and the fact that it is described as "amazing" suggests that it is a standout feature of the fish bar.
Moving on to the next comment, the customer mentions that the staff can be a little abrupt. This can be seen as a weakness, as customer service is an important aspect of any establishment. The comment also echoes the sentiment regarding the lack of free salt and vinegar, suggesting that this is a valid concern for customers. Additionally, the customer finds the prices to be fairly high compared to other fish and chip places in the area. This can be seen as a weakness in terms of value for money.
However, it is important to note that the comment also mentions that the food is pretty good, which suggests that the quality of the food may be a strength that balances out the weaknesses. The customer also mentions that they prefer Ocean's in Tring, indicating that there may be stronger competition in the area.
In conclusion, Berkhamsted Fish Bar has several strengths, including its location, opening hours, double-cooked chips, and delicious fish and chips. However, there are also weaknesses such as the lack of free salt and vinegar, greasy fish, and abrupt staff. The overall consensus from the comments is that while there are areas for improvement, the food quality and taste make it a recommended fish and chip place in Berkhamsted.

Don’t have free use of the salt and vinegar. This is an actual crime and means you have bland chips, which isn’t too bad if you’re taking them home and adding your own stuff but if you’re jumping on the train you’ll be disappointed.
Even if this is due to covid things then just wipe down the containers.
Will likely be back but will need free reign on the vinegar or have a staff member willing to drench them.
Well located and open good hours. They double cook their chips.
Good portion for the price
Lovely fish and chips. Sadly I was a bit late and it had been a busy night there so limited choice of menu, but it was recommended to me and it was very much worth the visit. Definitely recommended from me ????????
Freshly cooked, great taste & texture of the fried fish (haddock & cod) and chips. Highly recommended comfort food.
Was so hungry and craving fish and chips. So happy with the food here. Great quality, delicious Cod & chips. Made fresh to order ☺️ and they let the excess oil drip too ????
Fish rather greasy, but tasty.
Chips very nice.
Curry sauce too thin.
All round an excellent fish n chip shop. The cod was cooked to perfection and the batter doesn't give you a headache from being too heavy, which seems to be a common occurrence in a few other fish shops. The chips stayed great even after a drive home to the eat. The batter sausage and selection of other compliments is varied and wide, and the curry sauce, dare I say I have it with my fish and chips is very delightful.
The only thing that was inconvenient was the bit of a que on a Friday evening. Though this is to be expected with it being fishy Fridays, and all of their fish is cooked to order. GREAT FISH BAR.
Pretty good fish and the chips were the best I have ever had from a chippy. Amazingly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside!
The food is pretty good, but I find the staff are always a little abrupt. Agree with the review that salt and vinegar should be available for people to accommodate their own tastes. Also think it's a little off to charge so much extra for ketchup/mayo. Find it fairly pricey by comparison to others in the area. Honestly I prefer Ocean's in Tring.
