Quick Facts About Courtland Center
Courtland Center, located in Genesee County, has both strengths and weaknesses as a shopping center. With a mix of positive and negative feedback, it is important to consider different perspectives and aspects of the mall.
One of the strengths highlighted in the comments is the presence of the Goodwill store. Customers appreciate the opportunity to both donate and purchase items at discounted prices. The mention of receiving Target overflow indicates a potential benefit for shoppers looking for affordable products. Additionally, the staff is praised for their great service, which contributes positively to the overall shopping experience.
The Sloan Museum, which is temporarily located in Courtland Center, is another strength mentioned in the comments. Families with children appreciate the hands-on and fun learning activities offered at the museum. They enjoy visiting regularly and eagerly anticipate the opening of a new museum at Courtland Center. The affordability of the museum for Genesee County residents is also viewed as a positive aspect.
While the presence of quality local businesses and establishments is mentioned as a strength, the limited number of occupied storefronts is a weakness of the mall. Commenters note that there are only a few stores operating within the mall. This lack of variety and selection can be disappointing for shoppers, reducing its appeal as a shopping destination.
Another weakness identified is the impact of COVID-19 restrictions on the mall. Although described as having good stores and people, the mall does not allow walking due to the pandemic. This limitation may deter potential customers who prefer to physically browse stores or do not feel comfortable conducting their shopping online.
The decline of Courtland Center from its former busy and bustling state is noted in several comments. The significant decrease in the number of businesses operating within the mall is seen as a sad reminder of its past glory. The vacant spaces contribute to a sense of emptiness and may negatively affect the overall atmosphere of the mall.
In terms of the mall's potential, there are positive signs, such as the Sloan Museum's presence and the efforts being made to revive Courtland Center. The free admission offered to Genesee County residents at the Sloan Museum is considered a great advantage, particularly for families with children. However, the limited number of open stores within the mall remains a drawback.
Although Courtland Center may not be thriving currently, it still holds some appeal for certain demographics. The mall's historical significance and the opportunity it provides for parents to reminisce about the good old days of shopping malls can be viewed as a unique experience and a strength for nostalgia-seekers.
In conclusion, Courtland Center has a mix of strengths and weaknesses. From the positive reviews of the Goodwill store and the Sloan Museum to the negative comments about the limited number of open stores and the impact of COVID-19 restrictions, the mall is facing challenges. Efforts are being made to revive it, but it will require more businesses to be attracted to and established within the mall to truly thrive once again.

Pretty much still deserted but the Goodwill is in here and we love going! To donate and to purchase, they get alot of target overflow so I am always looking for that! Candles, clothing, and some decor as well, all half off or more than target prices. Staff is great.
We come to the Sloan Museum regularly with our two boys, 6 and 8. There is always so much to do and see for the kids, and all hands on and fun based learning activities...keeps them busy half the day! This was our first visit to this temp location at Courtland Center but we are very excited for the new museum to open! The plans for it look amazing. If you are a Genesee Co resident you cannot beat the price so go check it out and have some fun.
Good people and great stores (of the ones they have) but won't allow walking since Covid.
I enjoy strolling through this mall. Only a few a occupied store fronts that are mainly non-franchise retailers - local businesses. They're quality establishments that deserve a look: Lisa's (great customer service! Unique clothing! $10 waxing services!!), massage therapist, nails, etc. I'm thinking they can use our patronage more than Amazon.
Wow! Back in the day this mall was relatively busy. But now it only has a hand full of businesses operating out of it(JCPenney, Dunham's, GNC, Bath & Body, and a few others). There is a Sloan Museum exhibit, but I'm not sure if it's permanent or just temporary. It was closed when I visited the mall. There's definitely not a lot of shoppers to contend with. At least it's being maintained. It's actually a little sad to see all the vacant space.
Courtland Center is trying to come back! Having the Sloan Museum is really helping rebuild this mall. Don’t forget the Sloan Museum is free for all Genesee County Residents!! Great place for younger and older kids!!
This place is nothing now but a sad reminder of how busy and great it use to be. I think I counted 5 stores total that we're actually open and had access from the mall itself.
Not a lot of stores but a great place to take the kids and tell them about the good old days about the mall
