Quick Facts About John Lucente's Barber Shop

Strengths:
1. Affordable prices: Many customers commented on the affordable prices offered at John Lucente's Barber Shop. This is a significant strength as it attracts customers who are looking for quality haircuts without breaking the bank. The affordability makes it accessible to a wide range of customers, which can contribute to a steady customer base and repeat business.
2. Friendly and enjoyable barbers: Multiple reviews mentioned that the barbers at John Lucente's Barber Shop were friendly and enjoyable to talk to. This is a significant strength as it creates a welcoming and comfortable environment for customers. Building a good rapport with customers can lead to positive word-of-mouth referrals and customer loyalty.
3. Quality haircuts: Many customers praised the quality of the haircuts received at John Lucente's Barber Shop. They mentioned that the barbers were skilled at cutting a variety of styles and were particularly adept at fades and edge-ups. This strength indicates that the barbers possess the necessary expertise and skillset to deliver satisfactory results to customers. Consistent quality haircuts contribute to customer satisfaction and loyalty.
4. Local business with a good reputation: One comment mentioned that John Lucente's Barber Shop is a locally owned and operated business. This is a strength as it showcases the shop's roots within the community, which can build a sense of trust and loyalty among customers. Additionally, the comment highlighted that the shop has a good reputation, suggesting that it has established itself as a reliable and trustworthy business in the area.
Weaknesses:
1. Ignored customer's requests: A customer shared a negative experience where the barber ignored their request to leave a cowlick alone. Instead, the barber buzzed the cowlick, going against the customer's wishes. This weakness indicates that the barbers at John Lucente's Barber Shop may not always listen to and follow the specific requests of customers. Ignoring customer preferences can lead to dissatisfaction and a loss of business.
2. Inconsistent service quality: One customer expressed dissatisfaction with their haircut experience, stating that the older barber rushed through the cut, resulting in a sloppy fade and an unprofessional-looking top. This weakness suggests that there may be inconsistencies in the service quality provided at the shop. Inconsistent service quality can lead to a lack of trust and dissatisfaction among customers.
3. Limited experience with long haircuts: A customer with long hair expressed frustration with their haircut experience, stating that the barber did not understand how to cut long hair and ended up butchering the cut. This weakness highlights that John Lucente's Barber Shop may not specialize in or have extensive experience with long haircuts. This limitation can deter potential customers who are specifically seeking long hair services.
4. Lack of attention to detail: The same customer who had an issue with their long haircut also noted that the older barber's scissors never stopped moving, even when not cutting hair. This observation suggests a lack of attention to detail, as it resulted in a sloppy and unprofessional-looking haircut. Attention to detail is crucial in the grooming industry, and the lack thereof can lead to unsatisfied customers and a negative reputation.
In conclusion, John Lucente's Barber Shop has strengths such as affordable prices, friendly and enjoyable barbers, quality haircuts, and a good reputation as a local business. However, weaknesses include ignoring customer requests, inconsistent service quality, limited experience with long haircuts, and a lack of attention to detail.

Best TL Reviews

Excellent cut for an affordable price. I received a cut from the owner and he was extremely friendly. I recommend coming here if you are looking for a barber in the Mundelein area!
The 2 gentlemen here are absolutely incredible at cutting a mans hair in latest styles and great at fades. Edge ups are super clean and they are very enjoyable to talk to. Wouldn't go anywhere else now that I go there.
Owner/operator local business that I've been using for years. I've tried quite a few barber shops in the area before I found this one and it is the best. Great quality haircuts for economical price. There's a good feeling to the place as well.
I have to admit three things:
1) I got a good haircut.
2) It was quick.
3) It was only $15 ($20 after tip).
However, I told the barber to leave my cowlick alone because I was trying to grow it out so it would lay flat. I was a week or so away from that happening. Then he took out the clippers and essentially buzzed the cowlick. He whispered in my ear, "With cowlicks, you go short, not long. I know. I've been doing this 60 years. Any other barber who tells you to go long is no barber at all." And that is why I gave this place only two stars: The barber ignored what I told him. I will not be going back.
I have been going to this barbershop for over 40 years since moving to Mundelein in the 1970's. I'm not sure where the 'Sam' person went but it was certainly not John Lucente's: his barbers ALWAYS let you check the cut, they always ask a new customer how they want a cut, and the haircut is currently $15 plus tip and NOT $35. And Dom always watches when people come in so you don't have to say 'it's my turn now!' This shop may not be your style or cup of tea, but you will always get a good, efficient haircut for a decent price. And a bit of local gossip, if you wish!
Ive never had a haircut like this. I came in with almost 2 ft of hair, past my shoulder blades, asked the guy to cut it to about 6 inches, about ponytail length, and wound up looking like john lennon if he cut his hair himself with dull scissors and no mirror. It featured a reverse mullet (4 inches on sides, 3 inches on top, and 2 inches in back) and 1 in bangs for some reason, and at the end of it the guy said "now that its short you actually look like a respectable man and not some long haired kid" when i specifically asked for ponytail length. Thankfully the barbor shop across the street fixed his butcher job and made me actually look good, even though now I have short hair. Now, i understand that some barber shops only do shorter hair cuts for men, but if that was the case then they should have just told me they dont do long hair cuts, rather than cutting it 4 inches shorter than I asked for and totally butchering the cut so that now I was forced to just cut it all to clean cut(the barber i went to across the street 5 min later did the cleen part), not that clean cut is bad, but IF A DUDE WITH LONG HAIR ASKS FOR A HAIRCUT AND TO KEEP THE LENGTH, DONT CHOP IT OFF AND THEN TELL THEM THEY ARE NOW RESPECTABLE, AS IF THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH A DUDE HAVING LONG HAIR! Completely unprofessional. Thanks for making me look like beaver cleaver after wallie cuts his hair. Maybe you ignorant boomers workin there will actually get that reference. Serously who tf cuts the back 2 inches shorter than the sides?!?
This place made me feel really good and really bad at the same time. Good, because it’s hands down the best haircut and bread trim I have ever had. And bad, because I feel dumb for going to all these chain places for the past 20 years for a haircut, clipping coupons and pretty much rolling the dice every time I got a haircut.
If you haven’t been to a real barber shop yet, just try it once. And if you’re in the area, try John’s. Love this place.
I had a haircut with the older gentleman and it was just okay. He rushed through the cut even though it was dead in there. The fade on the sides was sloppy and there was a clear line where he tried to blend it. As far as the top, his scissors never stop moving even when not cutting hair. It felt like someone jabbing my head over and over. The top of my head looked it too, very sloppy and unprofessional. I'm sure it was an okay approach to cutting hair back in his time, but it feels sloppy today. Will not be going again.
