Quick Facts About Rodney Stoke

Rodney Stoke Place has several strengths that contribute to its appeal. Firstly, many visitors appreciate its good location for walks directly from the site onto the hills or low levels. This makes it an ideal choice for those who enjoy outdoor activities and exploring nature. Additionally, the site is adjacent to an inn with a pub serving grub and a selection of local beers. This makes it convenient for visitors who want to enjoy a meal or a drink without having to travel far.
Another strength of Rodney Stoke Place is its spotless facilities. The wash-up/utility room is clean and warm, providing visitors with a pleasant place to clean their dishes. The shower/toilet block is also warm and well-maintained, ensuring that visitors have a comfortable experience.
The level pitch is another positive aspect of the site. This makes it easier for visitors to set up their tents or caravans and provides a more comfortable camping experience. Another advantage is the reasonable rates for the time of year, which attract budget-conscious travelers who want affordable accommodation.
Another strength is the site's convenient location for visiting other places in Somerset. Visitors find it excellent for exploring the surrounding area and experiencing the various attractions and landmarks. Additionally, the small and friendly nature of the site creates a quiet and peaceful atmosphere that many guests appreciate. The site manager, Tom, is described as pleasant and helpful, which adds to the positive experience for visitors.
However, there are also some weaknesses mentioned in the comments. One common complaint is the use of token-operated showers. Some visitors find this inconvenient and would prefer more modern shower facilities. Another issue is the lack of WiFi on the site. In today's digital age, having WiFi has become an important criterion for many travelers, and some feel that the site would benefit from offering this amenity.
Another complaint raised by visitors is the parking arrangement. Some did not like having to park their cars in the car park instead of next to or in front of their caravans or tents. This is a departure from their previous camping experiences on other sites and is seen as an inconvenience. Additionally, the limited availability of public transport services in the area is mentioned as a drawback for some visitors.
Some minor issues mentioned include muddy pitches during wet weather, occasional dog dirt, and the need for better maintenance of the main entrance gate. These issues are relatively minor and do not significantly impact the overall experience for most visitors.
In summary, Rodney Stoke Place has several strengths that make it an attractive destination for campers. Its location for walks and visits to other attractions, along with its spotless facilities and level pitches, are highly regarded by visitors. However, some weaknesses such as token-operated showers, lack of WiFi, and inconvenient parking arrangements may be considered drawbacks by certain campers. Overall, the positive aspects of the site outweigh the negatives, making it a popular choice for those looking for a peaceful and well-maintained camping experience in Somerset.

Best TL Reviews

Liked: Good location for walks directly from site onto the hills or low levels. Adjacent Inn with pub grub and selection of local beers. Facilities spotless. Level pitch. Reasonable rates for time of year.
Clean and warm wash-up/utility room.
Warm shower/toilet block.
Disliked: Token operated showers.
Liked: The location for visiting other places in Somerset was excellent. The site was small, friendly, quiet and peaceful. Amenities were good, shower and toilet block modern and clean. Pitches were large and level. Tom the site manager very pleasant and helpful.
Disliked: Not being able to park my car next to or in front of my caravan, had to be parked in the car park. Have never experienced this before on any other sites I've visited. Also the lack of WiFi, feel the site would benefit from this.
Liked: Liked pitch size, toilet and shower facilities very clean. Tom was very friendly on arrival and left us alone but was available if we needed him. Great for walks, only 3 miles into Cheddar. Pub at the top of the road was friendly and welcoming with a good reasonably priced menu.
Disliked: Having to leave! Pitches had just been levelled so it was a bit mucky but it is winter and wet so this is to be expected
Liked: Clean, tidy, great layout. Security conscious. Tom the site warden extremely helpful and went out of his way to help myself and other fellow motorhomers. Would highly recommend this site. A great dog walk just outside the site and 10 minutes from Cheddar Gorge
Disliked: No WiFi
Liked: Quiet, clean and friendly. Nice pub with good food. Amazing walks with lots to explore.
Disliked: Pitch was a little muddy although this seemed to be the only one. There was some dog dirt around up in the far top left corner. Generally a clean site though.
Liked: Tom is very welcoming. The site is super quiet and very clean. The pub at the entrance is perfect for an evening meal.
Disliked: Public transport - buses are few and far between.
Liked: Quiet site and accessible to near by attractions.
Disliked: Site manager gave us the camp rules and indicated from the top of the site we’re we were to pitch our tent. There was no further contact with him during our stay.
One of the rules was to remove your shoes when entering the washrooms but this was not ideal as sometimes water had seeped out of the shower cubicals which caused your feet to get wet.
Liked: Exceptionally clean washroom block. Easy to locate through the gates at bottom of pub car park.
Lots to explore in local area - we did cheddar gorge, Weston supermare, Burnham on sea, and a couple of local villages, farm shop down the road and lots of local shops on routes to various places. Tom welcomed us with a smile ????
Disliked: Main entrance could do with some updating as gates and posts are rickety and awkward to use padlock entry system. Shower tokens and push button showers (not a fan). Pitches are reddish soil and gravel/ it was quite a mizzly weekend when we went so van and dogs feet got pretty mucky. Gate in bottom corner is not fit for purpose - nightmare to open whilst trying to manage a dog on a lead (no poo bin on this entry/exit which would be very useful)
