Quick Facts About The Old Hall

The Old Hall Place boasts several strengths that contribute to its appeal and potential success as a pub. Firstly, the building itself is described as "gorgeous," "beautiful," and "full of character." The fact that it has not been overdone in a recent refurbishment is likely to be appreciated by customers looking for an authentic and traditional pub experience. The use of oak beams and the historic feel of the place further add to its charm.
Additionally, the welcoming and friendly staff consistently receive positive mentions. The warm welcome received by visitors is specifically mentioned by multiple commenters, indicating that customer service is a strength of the pub. The fact that friendly staff can positively impact a customer's experience cannot be understated, and it appears that The Old Hall Place has employees who go above and beyond to make patrons feel welcome and valued.
Customers also appreciate the selection of drinks offered at The Old Hall Place. The pub exclusively serves Sam Smith's brews, which is not an issue for most patrons. This suggests that there is a niche market of customers who appreciate and seek out this particular brand, potentially setting the pub apart from others in the area. The fact that commenters praise the quality of the brews indicates that they are satisfied with the drink selection.
In terms of the menu offerings, commenters who have tried the food generally have positive experiences. Descriptions such as "delicious" and "lovely food" suggest that the quality of the meals is satisfactory. The fact that the menu has a slightly different slant to regular pub grub may also attract customers looking for a unique dining experience. The affordability of the food is also mentioned positively, indicating that it is fairly priced and offers good value for money.
However, there are also several weaknesses that should be addressed in order for The Old Hall Place to reach its full potential. One recurring issue is the lack of customers, particularly on quiet weekdays. Multiple commenters express disappointment at the low footfall, suggesting that the pub is not attracting as many visitors as it potentially could. This can have negative implications for the pub's atmosphere and longevity as a business, as a lack of customers can often be a red flag.
Another weakness identified is the pub's policy regarding technology usage. One commenter suggests that the pub serves as a digital-free zone, prohibiting the use of phones and tablets. While this may be seen as a charming or nostalgic feature for some, other commenters express dissatisfaction with this policy. In a world that is increasingly reliant on technology, some customers may find this restriction inconvenient or off-putting. This policy may hinder the pub from attracting a wider range of customers who prefer to use their devices freely.
Furthermore, it seems that the limited selection of spirits offered at The Old Hall Place is not to the liking of all customers. Commenters mention that they were unfamiliar with the brands served, and they preferred to go elsewhere to find spirits with brand names they knew. This suggests that expanding the selection of spirits, or at least including some more recognizable brands, could potentially attract a wider customer base and cater to a broader range of preferences.
In conclusion, The Old Hall Place has several strengths that contribute to its appeal, including a stunning and authentic building, friendly staff, a selection of quality drinks, and positive feedback regarding the food. However, weaknesses such as the lack of customers on quiet weekdays, the policy restricting technology usage, and the limited selection of spirits may hinder the pub from reaching its full potential. Addressing these weaknesses and finding ways to attract more customers and cater to a wider range of preferences would likely benefit The Old Hall Place and help ensure its success in the long run.

Visited today for first time in a long time. Pass this pub often and wasn't quite sure if it had reopened. We were glad to see that it has. Were greeted with a warm welcome. It was very quiet but it was Monday afternoon. We just had a drink but were pleased to hear that they are doing meals as well so we will certainly be back to try the menu. So glad that this wonderful building is once again open.
Fantastic pub with loads of history, well worth a visit
Called in whilst on a work trip for a pub lunch. I was refused service because I wanted to quietly use my laptop at my table. I could totally understand if it was 6pm or busy but it was 12:30pm and the place was literally empty. Went round the corner to the Liversedge pub, they gave me a wifi password and had a lovely meal. Crazy business model from Sam Smith's. (The lady at the bar was lovely about it though, not her fault)
Gorgeous old place full of character.. Great landlords serving great Sam Smith's brews and delicious and slightly different slant to regular pub grub. Delicious!
However, the pub needs to be full of customers though, it's a sad reflection of the time. Shame , as the Old Hall deserves better!
A beautiful old building thankfully not overdone during a recent refurb. Friendly welcome, one thing to note if you don't know the place is that only Sam Smith beers served which isn't a problem for me. Food is served but not on early week lunchtimes.
Brewery policy, digital free zone. My sister and I were sharing our holiday photos, ( I live abroad, visiting family in the area for Christmas). We were told we would be asked to leave if we used our phones in the pub. With 6 other customers in the pub, I don't think the Brewery can afford to restrict their customer base. The spirits served in the pub were not brands that are known to me. We drank up promptly and left. We went to The Liversedge, close by and enjoyed friendly service and spirits with brand names we know.
What a brilliant place! Dates from the late 1400s. Plenty of oak beams and history everywhere. No phones or tablets allowed, it's a pub for meeting people and the old fashioned habit of talking to other face to face! I will be coming back here again for sure
Had a meal with my daughters and it was lovely food and fairly priced. Great old building with rustic charm and friendly staff.
