Nice hair dresser, just need to be very clear when asking for a hair cut and checking time to time to make sure it goes in the right direction and it should perfect.
For me as a man, I am very satisfied about my haircut and the service. Really well put and attentive.
For my female partner on the other hand, they didn't check correctly after showing what they wanted and ended up with a much shorter haircut than they expected, and were therefore very disappointed.
This was my first experience at an hairdresser in the USA, so it is difficult to compare but I feel that the service was mostly attentive and the hair cut alright.
I'd recommend visiting this place if you can clearly explain what you want and it should be perfect as it was for me.
Javi and his wife Elena run a great business. They have it figured out: The location is pristine and beautiful, the welcome is kind and genuine, the work is artful and precise, the prices are fair and correct. Javi is a true artist; he takes time to study your hair, its tendencies, its quality and more. He then suggests options and executes masterfully. In the day and age of YouTube-certified "hair stylists", having a master with 30 years of experience and many awards is refreshing.
Awful experience!
I went for a haircut (for the 2nd time in that salon) and I showed them 2 of my pictures explaining what I wanted. I asked Javier to get the back of my hair ( back neck area) very short. When they asked me if I wanted them to cut my hair on the sides I said yes ( trusted them to do a good job) and I did not pay attention that they were going to shave the sides so they went ahead and shaved my whole hair. I never asked for that kind of haircut and I clearly showed them pictures of what I wanted. The first time around they did a good job but this second time they did something horrendous.
Javier was angry when I told them that I did not ask to shave my whole hair and did not apologize at all.
My current haircut gives me anxiety and I am currently taking pills to grow my hair. I will avoid this place at all costs as they don't pay attention and don't care about their customers and what they want and ask for.
Just got a haircut with Javier and Elena! I am so incredibly happy- I was walking down the block - saw good reviews and came in and am absolutely thrilled with my haircut. I’ve been going to the Neighborhood barbers for years with terrible results. I’m so happy to have found this place!
I love coming to visit with Javier and Elena. Javier is a true artist when it comes to hair and I can't wait to come and get it cut again. I went last time in January and it has been getting longer and longer during quarantine, but it still looks good. That's the true sign of a good stylist to me.
The salon itself is beautifully designed and I am always offered an espresso when I come in. I have come while my wife was getting her hair done just to chat and have good conversation.

Great haircut and fair prices! I went in not knowing what hair style I wanted but I knew I needed one. Luckily, Javier was a highly trained artist and recommended a hair style after discussing my preferences, life style, level of care needed for different hairs etc. The outcome was fantastic! He also recommended some non-expensive shampoo and conditioner that helped me solve my frizzy hair issue, after Elena showed me how to use them in the store. They really give you all-around care without overselling at all!
Helena and Javier are WONDERFUL people and GREAT professionals. I got the best service and they were warm, kind, helpful and patient. I also learned many things about my hair while talking to them. It's very hard to find a good, nice, trustworthy hairdresser in New York and this experience has been amazing for me. I will definitely come back to Theater Hair Salón. Thank you so much Helena and Javier for your dedicación , passion and everything. I will be back soon !!! :)
